The slicked back high ponytail

1/8

This ultra-chic look is one of the best hairstyles to dance the night away because once it’s up, you don’t have to be too careful with it or worry about mussing it.

To get the look, apply a little gel on your hairline and comb back to create the “slick back”.

Use a smoothing brush or your hands to tame stray flyaways and bumps, then tie your locks up in a high ponytail. And remember, the higher the better.

Tight pigtail braids

2/8

Probably the hottest hairstyle from the S/S2020 runways, tight pigtail braids are big right now and literally take just a few minutes to do. When your hair is damp, apply some smoothing gel or mousse into your strands, then use a comb to create a middle part. Pleat your hair into two tight braids and you’re good to go.

Curled under bob

3/8

This ‘50s inspired trend is making a big comeback – didn’t Selena Gomez look gorg with it at the AMAs – and we are all for it.

This look works best if your hair length is between your chin and your shoulders. All you need is about 10 minutes with a flat iron. Apply the iron at the mid point of your mane and pull it down and curled inwards. Do the same for your entire head.

Topknot

4/8

Don’t you love how a topknot looks good whether you’re wearing a cute LBD or loungewear at home? And it’s so simple to create! Just gather your strands into a high ponytail, twist it until you get a tight cinnamon bun and secure the knot with bobby pins, or even a fancy clip if you want to dress it up. So fun.

The extreme side part

5/8

If you only have 15 seconds to do your hair, then you’re going to love this.

Just use a wet comb to part your hair – the parting should be near to the outer corners of your eye – and apply some gel or mousse to smooth flyaways.

And to keep the look sexy, let your fringe cover at least a part of your peepers.

The low chignon

6/8

This chic bun is our go-to when we want to look elegant but don't have a ton of time to do something too elaborate.

You create it the same way you would a topknot, except at the base of your head.

To make sure strands don't go flying all over the place after you’ve fixed your bun, don’t forget to add some hairspray

Put a pin in it (or five)

7/8

Sometimes you need a little help to spruce up your mane, and what hotter accessory is there now then the not-so-basic pin?

There’s a tonne of options to choose from (big, small, sparkly, matte, colourful or monotone, just take your pick), and you can wear them however you want. We like to wear multiples at the side of our head.

Wet hair, don’t care

8/8

A hairstyle favoured by celebs, this is surprisingly easy to do, even for hairstyling beginners.

Start with damp hair and apply a generous amount of gel, working it throughout your strands (don't forget the roots too). The wetter you want your hair to look, the more gel you should apply. Then use a comb or brush – depending on the finish you want – to brush through your locks and you’re done.
