The no makeup makeup look might just be over. It’s time to be bold and confident, especially with your eye makeup. Whether you want something sexy, edgy or fun, there’s an eye trend for everyone this fall/winter 2018. Go all out with a bold black smokey eye, but avoid looking too goth and instead achieve sultry sophistication with some highlighter on the brow bone.

For classic glamour, do a chic brown eye with a slight shimmer. Use soft brown mascara to soften the gaze to make eyes look more romantic and doll-like. For the cool girls, wear a bold pop of pink and neon purple on your lids with a dramatic cat eye. For any of these looks, keep the rest of the face low-key with brushed brows and dewy skin.

The New Romantic

Having been a hot favourite amongst Hollywood starlets, Brock Collection takes a more grown-up spin on its signature romantic frocks with rich, tactile fabrics like embroidery and brocade as well as super feminine touches like delicate lace and sheer voile. And to accentuate the ease and softness of the clothes, the makeup was effortlessly beautiful. Created by Gucci Westman, she was inspired by brown suede and decided to adorn the models’ lids with a diffused veil of browns that subtly defined their eyes.

Perfect for everyday wear, here are makeup artist Joy Tan’s (@joy_oleander) tips on how to DIY this look. First, create a perfect base for eye shadow application by reducing the appearance of dark circles. Dab YSL Beauty All Hours Concealer on problem areas, focusing on the corners of your eyes as they are more prone to discolouration.

As this concealer is highly pigmented, a little goes a long way so be sure not to apply too much. Next, sweep an ivory shade in a shimmery texture all over your lids before applying a medium brown shade on the upper lash line, blending it towards the crease.

Then, layer on a dark brown colour along the lash line for added definition. Joy recommends an eyeshadow palette like Max Factor Masterpiece Nude Palette in 01 Cappuccino Nudes, which consists of a range of brown shades that flatter almost every skin tone. Finish with a brown mascara like Heroine Make Volume & Curl Mascara Advanced Film in 02 Brown so the entire look remains soft and feminine.

Party Girl

To complement the high-octane collection which Tom Ford put out, the makeup was equally unrestrained, with a rebellious yet glamorous sooty smoky eye look created by makeup maestro Pat McGrath. Perfect for a night out, we got makeup artist, Audrey Wee (@audrilious) to share some tips on how we can create this look even without access to a world-class glam squad.

According to Wee, it’s best to begin by prepping the upper and lower lids with an eye primer like Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. It smooths fine lines and holds makeup in place for up to 24-hour and crease-free wear

Next, line your upper and lower lash lines with a pencil eyeliner like M.A.C Modern Twist Kajal Liner in Cat’s Meow, and blend out the edges towards the crease. Sweep a dark grey eyeshadow in a satiny texture onto the centre of your lids to add a 3D effect.

For added depth, apply a matte black shade along the lash line and blend towards the crease. Apply another coat of jet black eyeliner like Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen at the lash line for more definition. Lastly, finish with lashings of volumising mascara for a dramatic effect.

Bohemian Mod

What do you get when you put ’60s references with the signature bohemian vibe that Anna Sui is known for? Her beautiful Fall 2018 show, of course! And she tapped on the expertise of Pat McGrath to create this unforgettable beauty look. Featuring bold accents of fuchsia and amethyst on the lids plus super dramatic lashes, what better way to experiment with new colours than through a fun look like this?

According to makeup artist Toni Tan (@toni.tan), apply a shimmery pink shade onto the inner corners of your eyes and blend towards the entire lid using a big fluffy rounded brush. Next, look straight ahead into the mirror and apply a purple liner across the crease, following the natural curve of your lids so that the colour just peeks through. Tan recommends MAC’s Technakohl Liner in Purple Dash, a rich aubergine shade that flatters almost every skin tone.

Then, line your lower lash lines and draw an elongated triangle on the outer corners of your upper lash line to create a cat eye effect. Use a smudging brush to apply a matte purple shade on your upper and lower lash lines to add intensity and soften the hard lines of the eyeliner that was previously applied.

To make your eyes pop, dab a touch of a bright fuchsia pink eyeshadow on the centre of your lids and blend. Tan recommends MAC’s Eyeshadow x 29: Lo-Fi palette, which has 29 saturated shades to create the boldest looks you can think of.
