While bold and colourful eye looks aren’t too popular with the average Singaporean woman, nude eyeshadow palettes are pretty much a makeup drawer staple. These kits are generally fuss-free, easy to work with, and are versatile, too: You can create a variety of eye looks from a simple all-over eye colour to a natural smoky eye. They let you play with makeup without looking too overdone for the office, while still giving you the opportunity to get creative when the mood strikes.

That said, it can be tough to find a makeup palette that contains every colour you might need – certain palettes have too much shimmer, while others don’t contain enough nudes that match your skin tone (especially if you need a transition colour for your crease). These are the six nude palettes that can truly function independently, so much so that you can take any one of these on holiday with you (or carry them in your makeup bag) without ever needing another palette to create a complete and cohesive eye look.

Tarte Tartelette 2 in Bloom Palette, $72

1/6

This is one of the most comprehensive neutral palettes released last year that isn’t too pricey, either. I like that it’s got neutrals for light, medium and deep skin tones, as well as a good mix of matte and shimmer. It’s slightly more affordable than many palettes of the same size (amounting to about $6 per eyeshadow shade), but still contains some great quality pigments made from naturally-derived Amazonian clay. If you love nude eyeshadows, this is the one palette you should buy this year.

Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette, $73

2/6

I love that this is a fully matte palette, because you don’t have to worry about finding a matte transition eyeshadow colour for your crease. It also comes with three different colour tones – neutral, cool, and warm, for you to mix and match a number of different everyday looks. The shadows are incredibly pigmented but blend like a dream, and are perfect for a quick and easy contouring of your eyes if you don’t want to spend time on a fussy makeup look.

Urban Decay Naked Basics 1&2, $45 each

3/6

The Basics palettes are the perfect distillation of true nude eyeshadows for everyday wear. The first one is in my opinion more suited to light-to-medium skin tones, while the Basics 2 palette has more deep brown eyeshadows for medium-to-deep skin tones. If you’re a truly fuss-free person who still wants to throw on some eyeshadow every day, then these are all you need. They’re also perfectly slim and easy to travel with, not to mention a much more affordable option than a mega palette with 10 or more shades.

Too Faced Natural Eyes & Natural Matte palettes, $53 each

4/6

Truth be told, I tend to reach for these palettes – the matte one in particular – more than most of my other palettes. The matte one has a perfect mix of nudes with the option to create a neutral contoured eye, a more rosy look, or a warm brown natural look. The Natural Eyes palette, on the other hand, has a similar selection of colours, but with less mauve tones and more shimmer that is perfect for transitioning to an evening look. These palettes travel really well and are of great quality, not to mention really affordable for the number of eyeshadows you’re getting in each.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Style Eye Con No 7 Plush Eyeshadow Palette in #206 The Lolita, $90

5/6

This palette has very similar shades to the Too Faced Natural Eyes palette, with the exception of having more mid-tone nude colours. The shadows are buttery and soft, and the palette is oh-so sleek! If you want to splurge on a gorgeous nude palette, you can’t really go wrong with this one. It’s got all the shades you could ever want or need to create a day or night time look!

Urban Decay Naked palette, $83

6/6

The original Naked palette is still my favourite for a truly nude everyday look. The Naked 2 taupe palette has a few too many shimmers and is too cool-toned for my taste, while the Naked 3 is a little too pink and again, doesn’t offer enough nudes. That said, it’s really a matter of personal preference and which nude tones suit your particular skin tone. If you have a more neutral or cool-toned complexion, you may find yourself preferring the second or third Naked palette, so swatch them out for yourself at the counter.
