With the return of maximalism and bold makeup looks, you might be thinking of ways to incorporate vibrant hues in your makeup routine. But did you know your choice of colours for your eyeshadow, blush and lipstick can have an impact on your energy flow and aura? It’s definitely another reason to play around with makeup shades that might be out of your comfort zone. Aura reader Whitney Tan (@wheatnie) seconds this.

“Aura is an energetic field and subtle vibration surrounding individuals. We are energy vibrating at various rates and this produces an electromagnetic field (EMF) around the body. EMF is what aura readers access and read,” she explains. This explains why different individuals radiate different colours.

While most people have a “predominant set of aura colours”, Whitney tells us that these hues only reflect your current state in life and hence are subject to change. “Our energies are constantly shifting because of our emotional responses to outside influences and the energy shifts around us.”

Whitney taps into intuitive gifts to help her clients influence their energies positively. She mainly does this through the use of colour psychology. This is vital, because the right colours can “ influence both our aura and mood”. “If there’s a specific energy you want to project, you can intentionally dress to embody it,” she elaborates.

With this in mind, here are some ways you can use colour in your makeup to bolster your self-confidence and get you closer to your goals.

When red is found in your aura, it connotes dominance, power and confidence. The striking hue is all about being seen and is great for attracting the attention of others and for strengthening your self-confidence. Channel red’s charisma with flushed, sun-drenched cheeks and a high-shine scarlet pout.

Blue helps to relieve tension and calm your mind in stressful situations. A sheer watercolour wash of cyan eyeshadow on the lids will do wonders for your mind and soul. Keep the rest of your makeup bare to let the soft hue take centrestage.

The bright and uplifting colour is an instant mood booster that will invite positive energy flow into your life. Whitney recommends adding a hint of gold to manifest abundance. If you’re sporting a vivid marigold hue on your lids, add definition and depth with an elongated winged liner and a coat or two of inky mascara. A gold lip gloss is not mandatory but highly recommended.

GREEN

According to Whitney, green is great for enhancing your productivity and achieving success in the workplace. A mix of pearlescent tones and seafoam green is all it takes to make this eyeshadow look office-appropriate. Tie everything together with a rosy, petal pink pout and whisper of blush.

PURPLE

Get in touch with your spiritual side by incorporating this colour into your makeup. As Whitney puts it, “purple auras tend to be visionaries and are highly influential. They oftentimes possess strong intuition.” To recreate this look, add a swipe of lilac eyeshadow on the brow bone and lower lash line before topping it off with a peachy powder in the centre of the lids. For that enviable other-worldy glow, team your eye makeup with a dusting of iridescent lavender blush or highlight on the high plains of your cheeks.
