Living in Singapore, one thing is for sure – frizzy hair and flyaways are pretty much an everyday affair. And it’s not something we can get away from as our weather is so humid all the time. Thanks to the excess moisture in the air, achieving smooth and sleek hair is always going to be a challenge.

It’s not just the climate though. The constant use of heated styling tools, as well as regular chemical treatments like colour and perms, can also damage hair, resulting in more frizz.

And while there are many haircare products in the market that claim to cut the frizz, tame flyaways and leave you with sleek hair, some tend to leave the hair flat, too dry or too heavily scented. Hands up, if like us, you’ve bought a slew of them in the past, only to be disappointed.

The good news is that smooth, silky hair can still be had. L’Oreal Paris has launched two new Extraordinary Oil ranges – Sublime Sleek and Sublime ShineShine – meant to combat problems like dryness, roughness, damage and more. The result: silky, sleek and salon-worthy tresses.

A Gift From Mother Nature: Natural French Essential Oils

Staying true to the brand’s French origins, Extraordinary Oil haircare is infused with the finest French oils.

The Sublime Sleek range uses Pure Amber Cedarwood Oil from France, extracted carefully via a six-step process to ensure that all its benefits are retained, so that it can hydrate and strengthen hair. In fact, instrumental tests showed that one wash left hair 98 per cent sleeker and smoother.

For a boost of lustre and to revive dull locks, the Sublime Shine range is enriched with precious French Rose Oil. These roses are freshly picked before dawn every day, then dried in a temperature-controlled room of 25-30 deg C, for four to five days.

From here, it takes another 48 hours to produce the pure essential rose oil, lauded for being rich in vitamins C and E that help revitalise hair from within. Instrumental tests show that with one wash, hair becomes healthy and lustrous once more, with up to 154 per cent more radiance.

Getting to Know the Extraordinary Oil range

1/7

Shampoo: They’re silicone- and paraben-free, and use a Micro-purification Deep Cleansing Technology that is able to thoroughly yet gently remove not only oil and dirt, but even PM2.5 pollutants at the same time. It is suitable for oily scalps, and works well in Singapore's humid weather.

Conditioner: Oh, what luscious textures you’ll find, plus the gold shimmer that makes your everyday haircare routine a luxe affair. They’re so nourishing that they double as treatment masks – simply apply a thick layer on hair and leave on for three to five minutes for extra repair and nourishment. And the best part is, it won't doesn't weigh down the hair.

The Hair Oil: To complement both ranges, the classic leave-in Extraordinary Oil hair oil is designed to deeply repair damage and nourish hair while keeping it sleek, shiny and, most importantly, frizz-free. Plus, the lightweight formula doesn’t weigh hair down.

It’s truly a must-have: You can add a few drops to shampoo or conditioner for added hair treatment, or use it as an overnight treatment to wake up to softer, healthier and more lustrous locks.

And if you use a hairdryer or heated styling tools, the hair oil works as a protectant, for heat up to 230 deg C. You can even use it as a finishing touch to fix bed-hair as it instantly tames frizz and add shine.

Here’s What Happened After We Tried the L’Oreal Paris Extraordinary Oil 3-step Hair Transformation Routine (Sublime Sleek)

4/7

Our tester's hair: Dry and damaged. My hair has been bleached multiple times, most recently in March this year. Over the past month, I’ve noticed that some strands have become extra kinky, with varying thickness along the shaft, which makes my hair feel very, very rough.

I’ve been looking for the right haircare products to help my hair. I’ve used a lot of hair oils in the past, and have even used hair masks as conditioners because I needed that extra hydration boost.

The Results: Hair Transformed, In 3 Easy Steps

5/7

Step 1 – Sublime Sleek Shampoo: The shampoo works up a rich lather quickly. I have very thick and long hair, so it usually takes a while to thoroughly work in any hair product, but I didn’t have to struggle as much here. After the first wash, my hair was bouncy-soft and smelled so nice.

6/7

Step 2 – Sublime Sleek Conditioner: It is so creamy and it glided through my hair so smoothly. I liked that it rinsed out easily despite its creamy texture. Because my hair is so thick, it takes a while to rinse out any treatments, and I always worry that heavier products won’t get removed completely. So this was a nice surprise and a big plus.

You can see the difference in texture in the image above. The one on the left shows the thick and concentrated Extraordinary Oil Sublime Sleek conditioner, while on the right side is a regular conditioner.

Step 3– Extraordinary Hair Oil: When I followed the brand’s tip about adding a pump of oil to the Sublime Sleek Conditioner and using that as a rinse-off mask while in the shower, my unruly hair just felt extra nourished. I could feel my dull and lifeless hair literally being revived.

Coupled with the use of the oil, I got smooth, silky and shiny hair – with just air-drying. Another plus in my books as my hair usually dries to a frizzy mess if I don’t use a hairdryer.

The Verdict

7/7

My hair is much smoother and glossier. After two washes, the ends feel less coarse. I also like how nourishing and effective the conditioner was, without being too difficult to wash off. And the hair oil adds an instant boost of lustre and shine to my locks, which I really enjoyed as well.
