How do the Girls' Generation members take care of their skin and beauty?

From exfoliation to hydration, these are the steps the South Korean girl group members take to care for themselves

Known as the "Nation's Girl Group", Girls' Generation hasn't made a comeback since their 2017 release Holiday Night. Following that, members Sooyoung, Seohyun and Tiffany Young departed SM Entertainment and each member went about carving their own niches as solo artists across television, film and music.

In August 2022, Girls' Generation reunited to celebrate the group's 15th anniversary with the album Forever 1 and appeared on various variety shows such as Soshi TamTam, much to the delight of eager fans. To celebrate their triumphant return, we're taking a look back at how the members of the popular South Korean girl group take care of their skin and beauty.

Tiffany Young

Tiffany Young's beauty routine is simple, with a weekly exfoliation routine to remove excess dead skin and sebum. Most importantly, Tiffany makes it a point to remove her makeup every night regardless of how tired she is as the products can damage the skin greatly when left on overnight. Another open secret she follows is to drink plenty of fluids — at least two litres a day. She believes that drinking sufficient clean water can speed up metabolism and aid the body's detoxification.

Tiffany also recently came to Singapore to partake in a Lancôme event to introduce a high-tech pop-up event and attracted many fans. Moreover, Tiffany revealed in an interview that due to her busy schedule, she uses the Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate to stabilise her skin condition.

Choi Sooyoung

Besides doing yoga to sculpt her physique, Choi Sooyoung employs a facial oil in her nightly routine. After washing her face, Sooyoung applies facial oil instead of a toner. She then incorporates a facial massage technique to help the facial oil absorb, improve blood circulation and restore a healthy glow.

Lim Yoona

As the spokesperson for Estee Lauder, Lim Yoona's skin receives the best care. At the core of her skincare mantra is hydration. Once the skin is nourished with hydration, it will appear plump with pores looking minimised as well. So regardless of where she goes, Yoona will always have a sheet mask and facial mist at hand to replenish hydration. And if necessary, she will place essence-soaked cotton pads across her face to boost hydration.

Seohyun

Ultraviolet rays create a lot of damage. Seohyun knows this fact very well and thus emphasises sun protection. Indoors or outdoors, she makes it a point to apply sunscreen daily and reapply on the go. In addition, she pays particular attention to the area around her eyes by applying eye cream daily. Seohyun also takes special care of her lips. Besides massaging the lips to plump and reduce the appearance of lines,  she also carefully maintains the corners of the lips.

Kwon Yuri

Kwon Yuri focuses on caring for her skin and body from the inside out. She drinks lemon bubbled water to replenish vitamin C and possibly aid with pigmentation issues over time. She also incorporates a vitamin C serum into a skincare routine, doubling its efficacy.

Kim Taeyeon

Hydration, hydration, hydration. Hydration underpins Kim Taeyeon's beauty routine. Due to having four seasons and cold, dry winters due to the high latitude, hydration throughout the year is paramount for good skin. Besides applying various face masks morning and night, Taeyeon also uses jelly masks at night to help the skin absorb the nourishing ingredients during the reparative, restorative sleep. She also consumes collagen drinks daily.

Sunny

Often neglected, the neck is the easiest location to betray your age. Sunny shared that her skincare routine is rather basic with few steps involved. She does, however, stick to Korean beauty products as they contain herbal ingredients that can penetrate the skin and produce results. For her nighttime routine, she applies facial oil to her neck and uses upward motions to the area as a way of doing facial massage.

Kim Hyoyeon

Kim Hyoyeon abides by the 168 intermittent fasting method to maintain her physique, which she supplements with copious amounts of water to detox. She also carries a facial mist with her to boost hydration whenever. Hyoyeon also believes in a healthy diet and regular exercise to maintain her health and skin.
