Humble fridge and pantry staples have been influencing our style and beauty choices on TikTok of late – from the Mediterranean-inspired tomato girl aesthetic to ‘90s-inspired cherry cola lips. Ahead, we break down four different mouth-watering makeup trends, and how to recreate each look.

TOMATO GIRL

1/8

With Tomato Girl makeup, you can be as understated or as bold as you would like. Take a leaf from this monochromatic look – if red eyeshadow is too much for you, try a subtler wipe of russet eyeliner.

2/8

The Tomato Girl exudes a carefree insouciance with sun-kissed skin and ruddy tones on the cheeks, eyelids and lips. They make a strong case for embracing earthy, shimmery eyeshadows like the ones found in the Anastasia Beverly Hills Fall Romance Eyeshadow Palette, $88. Subtly define the eyes with KVD Beauty Tattoo Liner Liquid Eyeliner in Trooper Satin Black, $36. Pat a crimson lipstick like Estee Lauder Pure Color Hi-Lustre Lipstick in #333 Persuasive, $56 onto the pout with fingertips for a just-bitten effect.

CHERRY COLA

3/8

We’ve seen plenty of ‘90s trends making a comeback, and the return of lip liners is long overdue. To bring the look into 2023, opt for cherry-red, high-shine glosses and stains to let your natural pout peer through. To prevent your lipstick from bleeding, outline your lips with a brown or burgundy lip liner before taking the colour around the rest of your lips.

4/8

True to its name, the Cherry Cola palette is centred on red. Pick a deep red lipstick like the Burberry Kisses Liquid in #93 Russet, $60 and use a similar maroon-leaning tone like the Rare Beauty Perfect Strokes Longwear Gel Eyeliner in Compassion, $33 and Chantecaille Luminescent Eye Shade Wild Mustang in Roan, $98 on your peepers, then complete the look with a matte cushion foundation such as the Yves Saint Laurent Le Cushion Encre De Peau Foundation, $108.

HARD-BOILED EGG

5/8

This trend is characterised by juicy, moisturised lips, inconspicuous eye makeup and clean skin with that enviable, incandescent glow. Like most natural makeup looks, recreating that glass-like sheen boils down to expertly applied skin prep. Look for skincare products like Charlotte Tilbury Magic Water Cream, from $59; Estee Lauder Re-Nutriv Ultimate Diamond Transformative Brilliance Serum, $425 and Sulwhasoo The Ultimate S Cream, from $320 that are loaded with hydrating hyaluronic acid and brightening vitamin C.

6/8

For an added hydration boost, follow up with an extra layer of hydrating primer. You can also go for tinted moisturisers or water-based foundations for a second-skin finish.

LATTE

7/8

Drawing inspiration from your morning cup of joe, this invigorating trend brings together elements of warm, creamy browns on the eyelids, cheeks and lips. In addition to being a versatile look, latte makeup is also flattering on all skin tones. As a rule of thumb, choose products that are two to three shades darker than your skin tone. If you have cool undertones, you can go for browns with a hint of orange or yellow like caramel or camel. Those with warm undertones can look for browns with a slight tinge of purple or grey like taupe or champagne.

8/8

Start off with a skin-loving base (we recommend Guerlain Parure Gold Skin Matte Foundation, $154, that is enriched with 24-carat gold and white peony extracts to illuminate and smooth skin). Top it off with Guerlain’s finely-milled Parure Gold Skin Control Compact Foundation, $154 that melts into the skin effortlessly to impart an airbrushed finish. Warm up the eyes with Clé de Peau Beauté Eye Color Quad, $85 ($45 for the case). before finishing off with a cocoa lip like Tom Ford Ultra Shine Lip Color in #159 Solaire, $87.
