Tired of dealing with bad hair days? While achieving perfect hair every day may seem like a lofty goal, with the right techniques and a bit of effort, it’s entirely possible. In this roundup, we unveil 10 easy and practical ways to help you attain flawless hair consistently. Whether you’re dealing with frizz, flatness, or unruly locks, these tips will help you streamline your hair routine and ensure that you never have to worry about looking like a mess.

1. Never iron wet hair

Whether you are using a straightening or curling iron, applying direct heat on wet hair is a surefire way to fry it.

2. Start with the scalp

Don’t put off using a scalp treatment until you see problems like hair loss. Starting a regular scalp care regimen will help your hair thrive.

3. Make waves while you sleep

Wash your hair and towel dry it. When it is almost dry, make two to three braids on either side of your head, then go to sleep. When you wake up, undo the braids and, using a little hair serum or oil, rake your fingers through your hair to tame the flyaway strands.

4. Keep a toothbrush handy

Spritz some hairspray on the bristles and gently brush it through flyaway hair to tame it.

5. Maximise your dry shampoo

Dry shampoos are the perfect go-to for absorbing excess oil from your scalp, which can make your hair look limp and flat. They’re also great when you can’t find time to wash your locks. Spraying dry shampoo onto hair creates volume, but also zaps away precious shine. Do this instead: Flip your head over and mist dry shampoo on the underside of your hair – you’ll get the volume while keeping glossiness intact.

6. Condition before and after shampoo

As hair is weakest and most prone to breakage when it is wet, applying a hair conditioner before you shampoo can help protect the strands. The conditioner also prevents hair from tangling up as you shampoo. You’ll also need to use a conditioner after rinsing out as the shampoo gets rid of sebum, dirt and chemical residue, but it can also dry out hair, so you need to protect it.

7. Instant texture and volume

On towel-dried hair, mist a sea salt spray all over, then use your fingers to comb through and fluff it up. Let it air-dry. This adds texture and fullness to your tresses without extensive styling.

8. Say no to rubber

Don’t use rubber bands to tie your hair as they pull at your hair and scalp, weakening the strands and causing breakage. Instead, use a fabric-covered elastic band, to reduce friction between your hair and the elastic band. Alternatively, you can also use a claw clip instead to hold your hair in place.

9. Subdue frizz

You can’t fight frizz in humid weather without using a hair product. The problem is, that dry hair is a magnet for water in the air. Your hair just absorbs it and then frizzes up. Calm the kinks with an anti-frizz hair serum, oil or cream.

10. Use rollers

Go heat-free by putting aside the hairdryer and using hair rollers instead. Set the rollers into towel-dried hair and leave to air-dry. The result: Natural-looking, bouncy curls!
