Bleached hair tends to behave badly — it's constantly dry, lacks volume, always needs colour maintenance and is full of breaking ends.
Before accepting perpetual damaged hair, know that it's possible to course-correct your bleached hair. According to these hairstylists, they share how to ensure that we get better, healthier, and brighter coloured hair now and in the future.
Hairstylist: Raymond, Black Hair Salon
Tip: Treat your locks to a hair treatment at least three times a week to maintain its moisture and keep your shine alive. To minimise hair breakage, use a hairdryer with good heat control temperatures. With the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer, use medium heat to blow dry hair around 90 per cent dry before combing through or applying any styling creams.
Hairstylist: Richard, The Loook Salon
Tip: Purple shampoo is essential for all bleached hair. It prolongs the hair colour and neutralises the yellow tone to cool tone, especially with blonde hair. The darker the purple shampoo, the stronger the effect.
Hairstylist: Wai Kan, Chez Vous
Tip: Before cleansing with shampoo, apply a pre-shampoo treatment or conditioner like the Kerastase Soin Premier Therapiste Pre-Shampoo to the hair. Avoid the roots or scalp and massage it in with downwards motions from lengths to end. This step helps reduce breakage by lubricating the hair before washing.
Hairstylist: Shawn Chia, Chez Vous
Tip: To protect hair strands from drying out and losing its colour, use a leave-in conditioner such as the Oribe Priming Lotion Leave-in Conditioning Detangler. Apply it to the mid to hair ends and blow-dry your hair with cold or medium heat.
