Our hair has a tendency to roam a little too wild and free when humidity levels reaches an all-time high. While frizz is usually caused by a lack of moisture in the hair, humidity can contribute to problem when air enters the cuticle. The hot days are made for basking in the sun – not worrying about bad hair days when the weather gets warm. While there is nothing wrong with a little frizz, it’s good to know that there are options out there to fight the frizz. Here are 5 ways to keep your hair from looking frizzy in those hot and humid days.

Don’t over wash your hair

This might sound a little counterintuitive because of there is any time we’re constantly on top of washing our hair, it’s definitely on those hot and sweaty days.   However, by doing so, you might strip your hair off its natural oils that moisturises your hair and this in turn makes your hair even frizzier. It’s also a good idea to use shampoo only on your roots rather than all over your head to prevent your hair from drying out.

Choose the right shampoo and conditioner

When it comes to eliminating frizz and keeping the hair from puffing up, you need to get to the root of the problem and start by using the right shampoo. As a rule of thumb, look for a shampoo with a lightweight consistency that will hydrate your hair so it doesn’t soak in moisture from the humid air. Also, keep a lookout for ingredients like glycerin that gets rid of frizz by penetrating the hair shaft and moisturising the hair from inside out. Additionally, glycerin helps to create a protective layer outside the hair shaft to protect your hair from breakage.

Aside from using the right shampoo, it’s also important for you to condition your hair to inject moisture into your hair. Similarly, look for ingredients such as glycerin and shea butter that hydrates your hair to keep the frizz at bay. If you’re afraid that conditioner will make your hair limp and flat, avoid your roots when you applying conditioner and concentrate the product on the ends of your hair.

Try: Botanical Shampoo ($26) and Verb Hydrating Conditioner ($12)

Apply an anti-frizz product

Prevention is always better than cure. When your hair is still damp (not soaking wet), go in with a lightweight serum or hair oil that are infused with ingredients dimethicone will tame the frizz and keep your strands smooth. Depending on the texture of your hair, apply the hair treatment concentrating on the ends of your hair if you have fine hair and the roots of your hair if you have thicker hair.

Try: Sachajuan Intensive Hair Oil ($62) and Oscar Blandi Polish Glossing Creme ($9)

Make sure your hair is completely dry

Before you step out of the house, ensure that your hair is 100 percent dry because it is less resistant to humidity. Regardless of whether your hair is coarse or fine, it will hold a lot of water. It’s always a good practice to get all of the moisture out of your hair to prevent frizz. When towel-drying your hair, wrap the towel around your hair and gently squeeze the hair instead of scrunching or roughing it up.

When you have naturally wavy or textured hair, invest in a silk pillow case because cotton pillowcases tend to absorb too much moisture in the hair. In addition to taming frizz, silk pillowcases can also work to prevent hair breakage. Alternatively, you can also braid your hair before you sleep to reduce the friction between your hair and the surface of the pillow that can lead to roughness.
