Our favourite Spring hair trend on the Spring/Summer 13 catwalks was the low ponytail – we saw it at Richard Chai and Alexander Wang in New York to Todd Lynn in London. It was such a simple, yet stylish hairstyle that we had to ask celebrity hairdresser Errol Douglas for his tips on how to recreate this look at home.

Go sleek
“This is a simple look but it relies on a sophisticated polished finish,” explains Errol. “The key to a sleek ponytail is to boost the hydration of your hair while it is wet. I would recommend using a tiny amount of Moroccanoil Original Treatment and then blow-dry your locks fast.”

Get sectioning
“Separate the hair into two sections, top and bottom and secure the bottom section into a ponytail with an elastic or bungee at the nape of your neck,” he explains.

Choose your parting
“Create a deep side-parting (this will be dictated on which side it falls by your hairline), then iron the top section straight with straighteners and gel it into place.”

Secure
“Pull the top section back, combining strands with the low ponytail, then once secure, take a small section of hair and wrap around bungee to create the polished hidden join.”

Fix
“Keep flyaways at bay by adding a control hairspray and smoothing over – then cover your hair with a shine spray to finish the look.” © Cover Media/ Photos: Showbit
