The latest nail art trend to emerge from Korea is all thanks to manicurist Eun Kyung Park, founder of Unistella salon in South Korea. Glass nails (or prism nails to some) are created by cutting up bits of holographic paper and setting them over a base colour. Easy enough for a little DIY, we think!

In an interview with Teen Vogue, Park divulged the source of inspiration for the trend: Iridescent abalone shells. She first attempted the technique months ago, cutting up pieces of cellophane sweet wrappers to mimic bits of glass before setting it all with gel polish.

However, the test run revealed that sweet wrappers were a little too thick to fit around the nail well. After much scouring, she found a thinner film called “rainbow film” that’s manufactured in Korea and perfect for achieving the glass nails she first imagined.

The trend has since been seen on nails all over the world, from nail spas in Poland to beauty mags in Belgium. We have to say we are completely mesmerised by these “glass” nails and are definitely going to try them out for ourselves!

Check out some of the beautiful glass nail manicures and interpretations below and if you love the trend as much as we do, try it out for the holidays!
