• Colonial Enclave

The Kuching Nail Spa, #03-03 Holland Road Shopping Centre, 211 Holland Avenue, tel: 6763-9868.

Inspired by Singapore’s colonial past, The Kuching Nail Spa has an elegant black-and-white interior. Even the name of this home-grown spa references the Kucinta, an exotic Singapura cat discovered on our shores sometime in the mid-1970s. Kick back with a hot cup of premium tea, and experience The Ultimate Pampering Pedicure ($83, 50 minutes). A rare treat for weary soles, this pedicure begins with a sugar scrub, followed by a mask and collagen socks. You’ll emerge feeling as light as a cloud.

• Feel-good Factor

The Nail Social, 42A Haji Lane, tel: 6717-3221.

The lifestyle concept offers nail and foot treatments, coffee and dessert, and fair-trade retail therapy. You’ll love using the iPad preloaded with Netflix, Korean dramas, games and books, as well as sipping on complimentary wine on Friday and Saturday with a minimum spend. Try the Luxe Spa Manicure and Pedicure ($130, three hours), which includes an extended massage using 100 per cent natural ingredients such as organic coconut oil and essential oils. Most of the nail products are organic, non-toxic and cruelty-free. The salon even keeps track of your preferences for future visits.

• Home-grown Spa

Home Nails, 20 Handy Road, tel: 6333-4985.

Home Nails is so named because it started as a home spa in Punggol in 2008. Over the years, its intricate gelish nail art won it a loyal following, allowing it to open a salon. The spa is best known for its gel extensions, 3-D nail art, gelish nails and bridal nails, but a key treatment to try is the Keratin Anti-aging Hand Spa treatment ($78, 30 minutes). Your arms are exfoliated with an organic brightening sugar scrub, nourished with an organic brightening cream and anti-ageing ampoule, and covered with a keratin wrap with heated massage mittens.

• Girly Party

Pink Parlour, #B2-21 Capitol Piazza, tel: 6100-8266.

With its walls splashed with bold pink, Pink Parlour is unapologetically girly and fun, making it the perfect place for a hen’s night and all-girls birthday parties. Aside from the usual manicures and pedicures, try the Prestige Nail Manicure ($68), which includes a paraffin wax treatment on top of your manicure for super-smooth and soft skin.

• Nail Sanctuary

Summer Haven, #03-28 112 Katong, tel: 6636-0400.

Founded by a customer service manager turned entrepreneur, Summer Haven focuses on the customer experience. The nail spa is warm and cosy, and offers both fuss-free and luxurious treatments. However, it’s its basic Classic Manicure ($30, 45 minutes), and Classic Pedicure ($40, 60 minutes), that are most popular. Cap off your spa session with hand-drawn nail art by the skilled therapists.

• Eco-beauty Spa

Paint Shoppe, Level 2, 39A East Coast Road, tel: 6348-1008.

A vegan-friendly nail spa, Paint Shoppe’s treatments are environmentally friendly and safe for the skin; treatments feature organic and fair-trade plant essences. To soothe chapped hands, try the Infinitely Nourishing Spa Manicure ($72, 75 minutes). The relaxing ritual includes a calming organic geranium bath-salt soak, an organic sugar scrub, Indonesian ginger mask, hot towel wrap and moisturising lotion massage. Once your hands are prepped to perfection, your cuticles and nails are carefully groomed and painted.

• Quick Fixes

6th Element, #02-26 Chevron House, tel: 6536-6071.

Located in the heart of the business district, 6th Element is perfect for women who want to fit a manicure into their hectic work schedule. The service is efficient, effective and fuss-free. If you have a little more time, complement your classic manicure and pedicure with the paraben- and preservative-free JJ Spa Treatment ($96, 120 minutes). The citrusy and uplifting lemon sugar polish and mandarin moisture mask will leave hands smooth and soft.

• Nail Bar

Manicurious, 41 Beach Road, tel: 6333-9096.

Gourmet cafe meets nail spa at Manicurious. Known for its fashion-forward nail art, some of which were inspired by Alexander McQueen, Givenchy and Miu Miu, the nail bar has a cult following. It doesn’t hurt that it also serves up addictive handcrafted coffee and pies. One of its most raved-about treatments is the Presto Gel Manicure ($85, 75 minutes). The Japanese brand is more chip-proof than regular gelish manicures for long-wearing benefits.
