With Singapore’s year-round summer weather, it’s hard not to break into a sweat even when it’s just walking from your house to the nearest train station. Which is why for many of us, antiperspirant is a must-have on our vanity table. 

One of the reasons why you might want to be wary of using normal, over-the-counter antiperspirants is that they usually contain aluminium salts that help to minimise sweat. While it sounds good, there are some downsides. 

After interacting with your perspiration, aluminium is said to cause yellow stains on your clothes. That means you’ll want to be extra careful on days when you’re wearing your favourite white shirt. 

Certain health issues, such as breast cancer, have also been associated with prolonged use of aluminium. However, the long term effects still remain unknown and there are studies citing aluminium-based antiperspirants to be safe.
