The biggest designers on the planet set the tone for the trending colours and looks every season on their runway shows. They mull over colour palettes and create beauty looks with their makeup artists and hairstylists to see how complementary or contrasting they want to go. But us women (yes, beauty editors and writers alike), we just want to see which are the trends that can add a fresh take to our beauty looks — so we know what colour to pick the next time we are in the mood to shop for a new lipstick, or which hairdo to take the plunge with for a fresh new start. Here are our favourite picks of the next biggest beauty trends.

Lebanese fashion brand Zuhair Murad’s dresses are always intricately designed so he probably doesn’t feel the need to draw attention away from them with complicated makeup looks. This is as no-makeup as no-makeup looks on the runways go – with dreamy, semi-matte skin and natural flowing hair. You can rock this look on weekends too, by making sure that your skincare is giving you the best skin ever.

It’s amazing how braids can completely elevate this looped ponytail look from the Valentino runway. Simply braid two thin braids from the sides of your hairline and use it to go round your looped ponytail to hide the hair tie from sight. Then secure with bobby pins. It’s that easy.

A different and – may we say, more wearable take on the glitter eyeshadow look was seen on Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fall-Winter 2019 runway. The look is still graphic, but it is more of a strip of colour (and glitter) instead of a winged eyeliner look. Because it’s not as extreme as the Guo Pei look, you can add a dash of pink lipstick to complete the look.

This hairstyle is an oldie, but a goodie. And this season’s version keeps the waves tighter on the side of the side-part and looser on the other, as seen on the Ulyana Sergeenko (a Russian fashion house) Fall-Winter show. It’s a fuss-free way to make a blunt bob look chicer and more sophisticated.

We’d hazard a guess to say that designer Elie Saab was probably inspired by the upcoming Mulan movie, but that would be an understatement. Because the super winged eyeliner look that debuted on her Fall-Winter show was reminiscent of the evil villainesses in old-school Chinese wuxia dramas. Still, we appreciate the very Gong Li-esque (in the Curse of the Golden Flower way) look and love how bold it is.

We were impressed with the huge ribbon on this Giorgio Armani Prive dress and the model’s flawless skin, but it was the chignon pulled to the nape that we are in love with. Keep lots of bobby pins and hair mousse on hand if you want to recreate this look, or you could always do a simpler version of this look by pulling your hair back into any low chignon if you’re strapped for time.
