Known as the Oscars of Korea, the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards recently took place in Seoul and hosted some of Korea's biggest names in film and TV. While the awards were slightly different this year (with the pandemic still going on and all), that didn't stop some of the attendees from getting their glam on, even with masks.

Unlike their Western counterparts, Korean hair and makeup looks tend to be a lot more subtle and doesn't call for big hair or bold eye looks, even for glamourous red carpet events. In fact, most actresses showed up variations of natural or effortless beauty looks that could work for both day or night.

Here are some of our favourites of th night.

Suzy Bae

1/7

Choosing to let her dramatic fishnet dress take centre stage, Suzy Bae kept her makeup and hair effortless with simple eyeliner, a slick of coral lip gloss and loose waves. It works as great beauty inspo for a casual date or brunch as well.

Lee Joo Young

2/7

We love the rock and roll vibes from Lee Joo Young's hair! The actress showed up in a layered shag and her own cool take of a popular hair trend, feather bangs. Eschewing a fancy frock, Lee went with a loose and relaxed suit that complemented the "devil may care" attitude her hair and makeup gave off.

Kim Hyeon Soo

3/7

If this is what Kim Hyeon Soo's skin can look like amidst stress from the pandemic and mask-wearing then we want her skincare routine stat! Kim's glass skin was definitely the highlight of her beauty look as the actress chose a foundation with a dewy finish to get that glowy look. Natural was definitely the theme for her look as she finished off with a "my lips but better" lip stain and freshly blown centre-parted hair.

Lee Re

4/7

Here's a great way to play around with the illusion of short hair if you're unwilling to make the chop. Take a page out of Lee Re's book and add short wispy layers around your hairline. The rest of her hair was artfully twisted, giving us the impression that Lee had an uber-cool pixie cut going on. The edginess of her hair really helped out to balance the romanticism of her gown.

Jang Yoon Ju

5/7

It's slicked-back chic for Jang Yoon Ju as she went for a neatly gelled back look that showcased her amazing bone structure. We liked how her hairstylist chose to flick her short ends out, giving her a punk-rock edge to her look.

Esom

6/7

Going for the gold, Esom went for subtle, shimmery eyeshadow that really made her eyes pop. Keeping in line with the other subtle makeup looks of the night, we spy a touch of shimmer and blush on the apples of her cheeks coupled with a matte pink finish on her lips.

Kim So-Hyun

7/7

Kim So-Hyun is a vision of beauty in this natural makeup look that enhances her already stunning features. It seems like she went for a theme of pink makeup as she stuck to different shades of pink for her eyes, cheeks and lips. Kim left her hair simple to match the'70s vibe of her Miu Miu dress.
