Growing up, we dreamed of having Ariel’s long, luscious hair, Frozen's Anna’s grace and Moana’s wit. While our favourite Disney icons can’t walk us through their beauty routines, Disney On Ice stars Jessica Lee (who plays Anna from Frozen) and Cassandra Smith (ensemble skater) are the next best thing.

The real magic might happen on stage, but the dressing table backstage is where it all comes together. The performers estimate that they do three shows a day (with a two-hour break between each performance) and almost a dozen shows per week – this translates to a whole lot of prep work.

To thoroughly cleanse and protect their skin from heavy stage makeup, both performers start their skincare routines with micellar water. Next, they hydrate with moisturiser before following up with a nourishing or brightening face mask.

For maximum plumping, Cassandra recommends the Royal Black Snail Cream Mask from South Korean brand Dr. G.

The performers reveal that it takes about two hours in makeup to bring each character to life, and every performer is expected to be able to do their own hair and makeup. A feat which Jessica completes with foundation, blush, bronzer, eyeshadow, red lipstick and white eyeliner on the waterline to make her “features look more prominent on ice.”

Cassandra’s pre-performance beauty essentials include false lashes, under-eye brightener and a bright red lipstick. “I like to overline my lips so when I smile or sing songs, the audience can still see my face from afar.” To set herself up for success with a bold, scarlet pout that lasts all day and night, Cassandra applies her lip liner over her lipstick to lock in the lip colour.

There’s a lot of meticulous planning, hard work and practice that goes into these performances. To Jessica, “getting to have those special moments with the kids in the audience and everyone of all ages,” makes it all worthwhile.

Cassandra echoes her views and adds that, “We’re a big family on the road and we’re travelling to every city together. I’ve met lifelong friends that are here on the show and it feels like I'm getting to travel with my family.”
