NARS global makeup artist, Jenny Smith, shows us how to create this gorgeous look with just one eyeshadow for the Whole9Yards show.
While Whole9Yards might seem like a label for girly-girls at first glance, the homegrown brand led by creative director, Danie Ngoo, seeks to challenge the conventional ideas of femininity with its designs. Models who walked down the runway for its S/S’ 2018 showcase at the Singapore Fashion Week 2017 donned tulle tops, deconstructed shell tops and sheer dresses paired with track pants. Just like the looks that went down the runway, the beauty look for the show was kept feminine but with an edge. Fresh and barely-there base makeup was paired with glossy pink lips and subtle aquamarine blue shadow on the eyes. We went backstage with NARS Global Makeup Artist, Jenny Smith, to find out how to recreate the look.

Step 1: Skincare
For your eye makeup to standout, keep your base makeup light and fresh. With a cotton pad, remove any dirt, grime and makeup with a hydrating toner, NARSskin Multi Action Hydrating Toner( $53) before applying essence, NARSskin Optimal Brightening Concentrate ($108) and moisturiser, NARSskin Luminous Moisture Cream ($85). When choosing moisturiser for the look, Jenny recommends going with one that has light reflecting complex in it so you “don’t have to work as hard for that highlighted look”. To brighten the eye area, tap a pea-sized dab of eye cream, NARSskin Total Replenishing Eye Cream, $85 underneath your eyes with your ring finger.
Pro tip: Rather than exfoliating with chemical exfoliators and scrubs, use a round textured cotton pad and toner to buff away dead skin cells on your face and lips.
Step 2: Barely-there base makeup
With your fingertips apply a thin layer of foundation, NARS Natural Radiant Long-Wear Foundation (new for Spring 2018, for now try NARS Sheer Glow Foundation, $76), starting from the centre of your face. Pick up some of the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (in a shade lighter than your skin tone), $46, and apply it on your eyelids with a brush to highlight your eye area. You can also apply the same concealer on the area around your lips. If you have imperfections and blemishes, conceal them with a matte concealer, NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer, $46. To set your base and eye makeup, dust some loose powder over your face, Soft Velvet Loose Powder, ($60).
Pro tip: For your base makeup to last all day, apply your loose powder with a powder puff in a pressing, rolling motion so your powder doesn’t just sit on top of your face.
Step 3: Ocean blue eyes
Using a flat brush, apply a baby blue eyeshadow, NARS Baby Jane Eyeshadow,(new for spring 2018, for now use the Curacao Velvet Eyeliner, $36) on the upper eyelid towards where the eye folds but not into the crease. With a small fluffy brush, lightly blend the eyeshadow. Apply a coat of mascara, NARS Audacious Mascara ($40) to your upper and bottom lashes. Don’t forget to fill in your brows, following the natural shape of your brows with brown eyeshadow, NARS Bali Eyeshadow ($40).
Step 4: Glossy pink lips and glowy cheeks
Apply a pink lip colour, Bolero Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($38), before going over your lips with a gloss, Triple X Lip Gloss ($38). For that sophisticated look, apply blush, NARS Bumpy Ride Blush ($50) on your cheekbones. To add to the dewiness of the look, apply highlighter, Hot Sand Highlighting Blush ($50) on the highest points of your cheeks.
