Fashion trends come and go, and after a year of chokers and scrunchies, it seems like another ‘90s accessory, the plastic claw clip, is making a comeback. The claw clip was ubiquitous in the ‘90s where ladies with long hair reached for the accessory to hold up ponytails, french twists, and that messy “pineapple” looking updo. Even though the nostalgic accessory disappeared from the public eye, claw clips were relegated to hold up messy topknots at home.

For his fall 2018 showcase at New York Fashion Week, designer Alexander Wang brought back the claw clip from the yesteryear and sent his models down the runway with silver and black clips.

The models wore their hair in a sleek gelled-back twist, fastened with claw clips above the base of the neck. The inspiration for the runway look stemmed from the ‘80s, when we first saw a rise of female empowerment in the office.

With tastemaker Wang’s seal of approval, you can expect to see them on influencers and fashion “It” girls all over the gram in the coming months. Judging from comments on social media, it seems like people are digging out their old clip collection.

Omg I can come out of the clip closet! I’ve been clipping ever since the 80s... at home and sometimes in the garden #bananarama #bananaclip https://t.co/8Ls9cP0Y9R

Yay my favorite hair accessory is back! Actually I never stopped wearing one, just never in public after last episode of Friends was aired. #clawcliphttps://t.co/NbD3iB2d1b

We are all for this trend because it is an easy way to get your tresses out of your face. Also, pulling your hair up at the crown is a great way to bring out your cheekbones and eyes. That said, to avoid looking matronly or like you’re about to wash your face, keep the look sophisticated and opt for a clip that is smaller and more dainty and pair it with a coiffed chignon or romantic half-up half down hairstyle.

In case you can’t find the flimsy claw clip from when you were 12 sitting in the back of your hair drawer, here are some inexpensive (and fashionable!) claw clips that you can get.

What do you think? Should we wear the throwback accessory with pride or keep it on the bathroom counter or bedside table?
