WHAT IT DOES: Lifts and thickens droopy and thin lashes. This do-it-all mascara has bristles that spiral around its wand, wrapping around thin strands and coating them.

WHAT IT DOES: Thickens and defi nes thin and short lashes. This wand is modelled after hair rollers and large-barrel hair brushes.

#4 Sephora Upside Down Mascara, $30

WHAT IT DOES: Lengthens, volumises and defines sparse and straight strands. As far as weird-looking wands go, this – which looks like barbecue tongs with bristles on each end – looks downright crazy. It can be used three ways: To separate lashes, use the straighter of the two spoolies; to lengthen lashes, squeeze both together to form one big brush; and for thicker lashes, clamp your upper lashes between both spoolies and sweep them from root to end.

WHAT IT DOES: Lengthens and separates short and sparse lashes. The long, dispersed bristles on this slim wand grip each lash and lengthen it. Two coats will give you a lash-extension-like effect.
