There are a number of advantages to choosing a liquid eyeliner instead of a powder-based option, not the least of which are the ease with which liquid eyeliners can be used and how easy it can be to customise your eyeliner application.
“Nothing oozes effortless glamour, more than liquid liner”, enthuses celebrity makeup artist Armand Beasley, who has glamourised some of the most beautiful women in the world including Hollywood icon Goldie Hawn. Here are his tips on why it should be a liquid line every time.
“Longevity is the biggest advantage of a liquid liner,” explains Armand. “A pencil liner can disappear over time whereas a liquid liner – especially the ones from Illamasqua, M.A.C or Guerlain, will be totally smudge-proof once dried.”
It will make your eyes bigger
“Eyes can also look wider using liquid liner if you start close the inner corner of the upper lashes and work outwards while gradually thickening the line and finishing with a subtle 45 degree flick to produce a cat-eye effect,” suggests Armand. To further increase your doe-eyed look, add mascara to both your top and bottom lashes. Then mascara top and bottom.
“Liquid liner can be neater too as pencil or powder liner can fall or smudge as the day progresses due to oil production around the eye area.”
“Precision is a keyword when it comes to liquid liner as it can really enhance the shape of an eye without the need of shadow, whilst still looking clean,” says Armand.
To get the best application, steady your elbow by resting it on a table then raise your brows whilst looking slightly down onto a mirror and slowly dot-to-dot the liquid liner along your lash line. “Steady the hand by using the little finger as support,” he adds.
“You can create a variety of looks with liquid liner by using below your eye as well as on your eyelid – think Twiggy”, he laughs.
“Be creative and mirror your top liner with one underneath and pop white liner on the inside of the eye (Art Deco do a great one), then add a full set of lashes on the top and bottom!” He adds.
