4 great foundation finds

Finding the right foundation for the seasonal change is always hard, whether more coverage is needed in the winter or less for warmer months. Take into account the constant quest for barely-there make-up and fresh looking skin and making the right choice can seem like an insurmountable problem. To help take the pressure off achieving dewy skin we've checked out several of the big names in the business - some new, some classics - to see if they live up to the hype.

Dr Lewinn's Skin Perfect Anti-Ageing Foundation
This is a new product from the skin care giants and promises to "visibly smooth wrinkles and fine lines, hydrate and protect from ageing". The foundation contains various ingredients said to boost radiance, such as tourmaline and rose stem cells.

If you're careful putting this on you can get a light coverage, although it's easy to get a bit heavy-handed if using your fingers. We'd advise applying with a brush if you want a dewy look and building it up for full coverage. When it's first put on the foundation gives a lovely fresh look, although that does fade a little over the day. It's easy to find a colour match but we found the foundation a little drying, so apply moisturiser first.

MAC Face and Body Foundation
This is a lot lighter than many MAC foundations and is made to be worn on any area of skin. The product glides on quickly and covers up problem areas well. It doesn't look thick or cakey, but as it's so light, this isn't the option if you have problem skin. This is ideal as skin radiance booster and it is a firm favourite of ours. Again, apply with a brush for best results and add a slick of MAC Strobe Cream underneath if you want even more radiance.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation
Bourjois have reinforced the formula of their Healthy Mix Foundation and re-launched the product to tie-in with this season's trend for fresh nude-looking skin. The product comes in eight natural shades that offer the right balance of yellow and pink undertones to compliment your skin tone. While not the most long-lasting foundation available, this gives an instant radiance boost. It leaves your complexion feeling refreshed and moisturised, rather than caked with foundation.

L'Oréal True Match Liquid Foundation
The True Match Liquid Foundation range from L'Oréal offers 20 true-to-skin shades that adapt to your natural colourings. Pick a shade as close to your skin colour as you can, going on whether you have more warm or cool tones to your face, then let the product do its work. Coverage is good and will last for most of the day without the need for reapplication. The only downside is that quite a lot of foundation is needed to get a flawless finish, so it runs out quicker than you might expect.
