Gone are the days when wearing pink eyeshadows, or any pink makeup, was reserved for teenage girls. Pastel pinks with unflattering, chunky glitter pigments have since given way to a wide range of beautiful pink shades in a variety of textures such as pearlescent and metallics. Here, we examine three of our favourite celebrity looks and how you can create them for everyday wear:
Lucy Boynton at the 91st Academy Awards
Created by celebrity makeup artist, Jo Baker, the focus of Boynton’s look was her complexion, and the accents of pink on her lids, cheeks and lips were then applied to complement her skin. “I wanted to focus on glowing skin, to add colour without adding too much,” explains Baker. She used a sheer layer of foundation to even out Boyton’s skin tone before layering on a concealer to neutralise areas that showed signs of redness.
Then, she dusted on an illuminating finishing powder, which Baker refers to as “a powder that isn’t too powdery, with sparkle that doesn’t sparkle too much”.

Set a base colour

When it comes to making pink eyeshadows pretty yet still elegant and professional, less is always more. According to Baker, “Pink eyeshadows can read very heavy, but blush is a perfect way to play around with pinks on the eyes”. So if it’s your first time experimenting with pink eyeshadows, create a soft look with a blusher instead. For Boynton’s look, Baker created a base with Chantecaille’s Philanthropy Cheek Shade in Bliss, for a sheer wash of colour.
Intensify inner corners and eyelids

Next, she intensified the look with Chantecaille’s Mermaid Eye Matte in Sylvie, $58, a soft brown shade, on the inner corners and the centre of your eyelids.
Add dimension with shimmer

Then, she tapped on a shimmering rose peach and iridescent lilac pink shade from the Chantecaille Polar Ice Eye Palette, $163, to give dimension to the lids.
Subtly define lower lash line

She followed with Chantecaille Luminescent Eye Shade in Sole, extending it onto the lower lash line for a subtle definition.
Lashes to seal the deal

And finally, Chantecaille Faux Cils Longest Lash Mascara, $123, was used to really lengthen and open up Boynton’s eyes.
Gemma Chan at the 91st Academy Awards
If you prefer understated looks, take your cue from Crazy Rich Asians star, Gemma Chan. Arriving at the Oscars in a jaw-dropping Valentino Haute Couture frock, the British actress kept it simple when it came to her hair and makeup. Working with makeup artist to the stars, Monika Blunder, she wore Clé de Peau Beauté makeup to the Oscars, sticking to a mauve-pink palette for her lids, cheeks and lips, with an unexpected emerald green liner.

Prep the lids

Start by prepping your lids with a sheer layer of Clé de Peau Beauté Radiant Concealer, $105, which takes away discolouration on the lids so the eye makeup goes on more evenly and pops. And if you have dark circles, you can also dab on some concealer to brighten your under eye area.
Pack on the pink

Next, apply a mauve shade from your lash lines, extending to the creases. We like Clé De Peau Beauté Cream Blush in Cranberry, $65, for buildable and blendable formula. If you’d like to intensify the effect, add more product at the crease to give the illusion of deeper set eyes.
Line your eyes

Then, line your upper lids with a Clé de Peau Beauté Intensifying Liquid Eyeliner, $77, which has an ultra-fine tip for ultimate precision. As your extend the flick towards the outer corners of the eyes, gradually angle it upwards to lift droopy lids.
The finishing touch

And for the finishing touch, wet your eyeshadow brush and apply the deep emerald shade from Clé De Peau Beauté Eye Color Duo in 103 Harmony, $95, over the upper and lower lash lines to further accentuate your eyes. And don’t forget multiple coats of Clé de Peau Beauté Perfect Lash Mascara in Black, $73, for long, flutter lashes.
Julia Garner at New York Fashion Week
Attending the Fall 2019 show of Kate Spade in New York, the 25-year-old starlet stepped out in a lilac ensemble with a bold fuchsia lips painted on by celebrity makeup artist, Hung Vanngo. Her lids were kept almost bare, except for voluminous lashes and a slick of black eyeliner.

Smooth out lids

To create this minimal, wide-eyed look, it’s important to ensure you have all your basics completed. Start with smoothing a thin layer of Marc Jacobs Beauty Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Eye Primer, $40. And if you have obvious discolouration on your lids, consider using a concealer to even out skin tone.
Subtly define the upper lash line

Next, apply a Marc Jacobs Beauty Fineliner Ultra Skinny Gel Eye Crayon in Blacquer, $34, on the upper lash line, sticking as close to your lash line as possible for a subtle definition.
Define lashes

Then, in a zig-zag motion, apply Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara, $44, and repeat until you achieve the volume you’re happy with. Just remember to wait for each coat to dry for about a minute or so before repeating to minimise clumping.
Line the waterline for wider eyes

Finally, reach for a light pink eyeliner shade like Marc Jacobs Beauty Fineliner Ultra Skinny Gel Eye Crayon in (Pink)y Swear, $34, and line your waterline on your inner lash lines to really open up the eyes and take away the look of fatigue. Stick to a pastel pink shade and avoid reddish pinks so you won’t end up looking like you’re suffering from a bout of nasty sore eyes.
