Ayden Sng is in his feelings: “It always helps with what you’re going through” 

Hot on the heels of the success of his leading role in the Chinese drama Double Helix, alongside Elio Lyu Sitong, and his new film The Violinist, local actor Ayden Sng has been making moves beyond Singapore, with recent work taking him to Bangkok and Vietnam. Now based in Beijing, the 32-year-old actor has plenty on his plate, but how does he manage to do it all?

For Sng, the answer starts from within. A self-professed fur dad to six cats, he is quick to point out that self-care goes beyond what we see on the surface, stressing the importance of making time to process your feelings and emotions, as well as carving out moments for introspection. “It always helps with what you’re going through.”

Sng shared this during a sit-down interview with Her World at the 30 August launch of homegrown skincare brand Blé de Fonty’s patented Golden Shield 2.0 at Jewel Changi Airport. The skin-fortifying technology harnesses advanced biomimetic lipid technology to help combat environmental stress, with Sng serving as the brand’s ambassador.

Dressed in a sharp all-white suit, Sng had recently embarked on a new chapter in Beijing, where he is signed to Chinese agency Mejoy Entertainment. His move to China marked a leap of faith after seven years with MediaCorp, which he left in May.

Since working with Blé de Fonty, one particular tagline has stuck with him: “Targeted problems require targeted solutions.” Applied to his own skincare routine, this has made his nighttime regimen “quite straightforward”. “You have a pearl for your skin, for your lips, for your hands, for your eyes and for your neck. So the whole process becomes efficient and convenient,” he says.

For someone whose career is, by nature, closely tied to his appearance, Sng says he is conscious of the distinction between looking after his appearance for work and making time for himself. While he “relies on his face and outward appearance for his job”, it is the pockets of time set aside purely for himself that he has come to appreciate.

Ultimately, he believes that looking after your external appearance is only one part of the equation. What “really ties everything together for any individual is the ability to be self-assured and confident in who you are”.

“I always think that if you take care of yourself first on the inside, then it’ll eventually show on the outside,” he explains.
