We’ve all been there: a complexion that is not breaking out, not particularly dry – just flat and tired. Missing that glow you cannot quite name, but immediately recognise on someone else.

That was Mel Chew’s starting point. The Her World Spa and Hair Awards reviewer described her skin as “generally in decent condition but looks tired and slightly dull, with mild dehydration and early fine lines, especially around the eyes and mouth.”

Which is how she ended up at Senze Boutique Spa, inside Raffles City Shopping Centre. The spa’s Senze Indermis FaceLift Facial – this year’s winner of our Best Facial for Red Carpet Ready Skin award – pairs SK-II skincare with INDIBA radio frequency technology in a 90-minute treatment designed to sharpen facial contours, brighten a dull complexion and restore definition around the jawline and eye area.

How RF technology and SK-II work together

The experience begins with a consultation to identify your skin’s unique needs, then moves to a private treatment room. Mel described the facial bed to be exceptionally comfortable and cocooning.

The therapist begins with a gentle but thorough cleanse and exfoliation using SK-II Treatment Cleansing Oil and SK-II Gentle Cleanser. This is followed by steaming and gentle extraction, before introducing the INDIBA therapy.

This handheld device uses radio frequency energy to warm the skin, in order to drive the products deeper and stimulate collagen activity and circulation at a cellular level. The thermal effect also means skincare ingredients absorb more effectively than they would if applied alone, and the warmth continues to work on the skin for days after the treatment.

The warmth is subtle; the touch, Mel notes, was “feather-light”. Each step felt deliberate and unhurried to Mel, and the therapist’s manner was calm and assured throughout. She scored the experience 10 out of 10 – and was relaxed enough to fall asleep before it was over, especially since the session also included a scalp, neck and shoulder massage.

The treatment concluded with the application of SK-II products, which includes SK-II Facial Treatment Essence.

Red carpet-ready

Post-treatment, Mel’s skin looked noticeably lifted and her fine lines were less obvious – the kind of rested, clarified complexion you would want to show off on a red carpet,

The most telling moment came when she went to re-apply her makeup: “I didn’t feel the need to apply any foundation, or any highlighter or contouring products – just a swipe of lipstick before heading out”.

Her verdict on whether the treatment delivered on its promises? Yes – It boosted radiance, improved texture and resulted in a complexion that looked lifted and refreshed – without any downtime.
