44-year-old Fan Bingbing on why she sometimes sheet masks twice a day
She shares how discipline, consistency, and happiness define her approach to beauty and life

Fan Bingbing has long been admired for her flawless, porcelain skin, but when asked about her skincare routine, the actress and producer is quick to emphasise that there are no shortcuts—only discipline and intention.
The global star was in Singapore on Saturday 3 January at Jewel Changi Airport for the official launch of her skincare brand Fan Beauty Diary with Watsons, sharing insights into her personal routine, her philosophy of beauty, and the brand’s expansion into Southeast Asia.
No matter how long or demanding her day is, Fan revealed that her skincare routine is never skipped. On especially taxing days, she sometimes uses two sheet masks—one in the daytime and another at night.
“I’m very self-motivated and disciplined,” she said. “No matter how tired I am, I will always complete my skincare routine and do it to the best of my ability.”
Fan explained that her routine starts with thorough cleansing, followed by exfoliation to address blackheads and white spots, before moving on to depuffing and targeted recovery. Sheet masks, she says, are central to her regimen.
This consistency is mirrored in her approach to beauty products and her eponymous brand. Fan Beauty Diary, which has been established in China for years and boasts an 80 per cent repurchase rate, reflects Fan’s belief that skincare should support both results and well-being.
“I hope to bring happiness and mood boosters through beauty products,” she said. “Skincare should make you feel good, not just look good.”
The brand’s focus on “sensory skincare” emphasises textures, comfort, and the emotional experience of using a product, alongside visible benefits.
Fan Beauty Diary’s launch in Singapore underscores the brand’s growing footprint beyond China. “Women in Singapore have very high standards,” Fan said. “They know how to carry themselves and what works for them.”
She also shared plans to expand into Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Korea and Europe, highlighting the importance of adapting skincare to different climates, lifestyles and skin types.
“Every market is different,” she explained. “It’s important to tailor solutions for the people using the products.”
Among her favourites is the Peony Youth Capture Brightening Mask, praised for its brightening and repairing effects.
“I like the skin brightening effect,” she said. “It helps even out the skin tone and repair the skin.”
At this stage in her life, Fan’s understanding of beauty has evolved. It is less about appearances and more about living a fulfilled, happy life.
“There are many ways to define beauty,” she said. “For me now, beauty is about living a fulfilled and happy life. It’s a mindset—not just your exterior, but how your happiness emanates from within.”
Her advice is simple but powerful: take care of yourself and get enough sleep.
“If you are happy and healthy, it shows,” she said.
Fan Bingbing’s appearance also coincided with the kickoff of Watsons Shopathon Mania, a city-wide retail activation that turns shopping into a journey of discovery. Conceptualised as the W Line, selected Watsons stores across Singapore become vibrant “stations”, each showcasing curated brands, special launches and limited-time experiences—inviting shoppers to explore and find something new at every stop.
