Hari Raya is here, and if you haven’t bought your hijab, or don’t know what hijab style to match with your baju raya, fret not. We scoured social media to shortlist 11 hijab styles you might like, from simple ones that even new hijabis can wear, to dressy ones that will make you look like a star.

Remember, the type of fabric determines which style you can wear, so look at the flow of the style before buying your hijab. And if your kids are young and have the tendency to pull your hijab (we get it), there are some styles you might want to avoid. Scroll to read, and start prepping!

1. Modest and elegant

If you’re looking for a modest style that covers your chest, try this style, which is simple, neat, and elegant. While this content creator made it work with a printed square shawl, you can also opt for a plain one. However, we suggest choosing one with a bit of weight so the fabric rests nicely on your body. A material with a bit of shine like satin would make you look extra luxe, but also be mindful that those make water stains more visible, so might not be the best option if you need to carry a young one throughout the day.

2. Hijab with earrings

Think you can’t wear earrings when donning the hijab? Think again! Pair this hijab style and a pair of clip-on earrings, and you can make it happen. Statement earrings are great for this, but avoid those that are too heavy, as they might weigh down your hijab, and make it look messy as the day progresses. There are other hijab styles that allow you to wear your own piercings, but those show a bit of your sideburns, so only wear those if you are comfortable with that.

3. Scarf-inspired

Think a square shawl is the easiest to style, but don’t like how big some of them look? Try this style! The additional layer on your head helps to shorten the hijab while securing the ends with a ring gives it an elegant, French-inspired finish. Of course, you don’t have to use a ring. Simply buy a clip-on brooch, which can not only do the job but is also way more secure than a ring. We feel this works best with a satin or silk shawl, with prints, so it looks like you’re wearing a scarf around your neck.

4. Over the shoulder

No time to iron or steam your shawl? Don’t fret. This hair straightener trick might save you when you’re busy on the morning of Raya. This style makes use of magnets (available on Shopee, Lazada, and other online portals) so you can easily secure the shawl, without accidentally poking your finger with brooches, when you’re pressed for time. Moreover, this over-the-shoulder style is currently popular on social media! Do note that a thin chiffon fabric works best for this, as you’re unlikely to get creases out with just a hair straightener on a thicker fabric.

5. This one can be easily fixed

Here’s a hijab style you can easily fix mid-day or after prayers! This one uses just two pins on your head, and none on your body, so you can easily adjust the layers below the neck. You don’t even need to tie it — just wrap it around your neck, adjust it, and you’re good to go. This is great for those with young kids, so you can easily adjust your hijab without fumbling with brooches, or worrying your kids might injure their fingers if the brooch comes undone.

6. No loose ends

One of the most stressful things about Hari Raya is making sure your hijab remains stain-free throughout the day. If you know you’re the kind who is prone to dipping one end of your hjiab into kuah lodeh, opt for a style that keeps the length at the back, like this one. For those with short hair and need a bit of volume, get a volumiser inner (available on Shopee), which will help keep your hijab in place too. Don’t like how one side covers a part of your face? Just secure it with a pin, and the chances of your hijab remaining stain-free by the fifth house visit are high.

7. Flowy and elegant

We can’t get over how elegant this style is! This is perfect for those who need to get the ends of the hijab out of the way while serving food or eating, but still want that flow. Make sure your hijab material is not too thick, so you can get that flowy look at the back. We suggest going for a shiny material like silk for an elevated look. You can also wear this with a statement necklace for added elegance.

8. Two-pin style

This style uses only two pins! Follow this super easy tutorial, and finish off with a small clip-on brooch — or clip-on earring — on the side where the second pin is secured to glam up the look and create the illusion of wearing earrings without exposing the ear. This style works best with a lightweight fabric, and we personally would go with a solid-coloured one, so the difference in colour/tone on both sides of the fabric is less obvious, for a more seamless finish.

9. Use earrings as hooks

Wow, this trick is genius! If you don’t like to fumble with pins and brooches, this is a great hack that will have you ready in less than five minutes! All you have to do is wear an inner that covers your neck, hook hoop earrings on the inner cap or underscarf, and then use them as hooks to secure your hijab. Warning, this one works if your hijab cap is tight, and you are not handling a child who grabs your tudung every one minute.

10. No-pin style

No-pin hijab style? We got you. With this technique, you just need to tie two parts of the shawl at the nape of your neck, and then start looping and adjusting. This style is great for new mums who want to avoid wearing brooches while holding their little ones. You can wear this two ways: with the longer end covering your chest, or by tucking both at the back. This technique might not work for smooth fabrics like satin, as it might slip off your inner cap. Opt for those with a bit more texture, such as chiffon. For added security, use a pin at the top of your head.

11. Three-step style

Don’t like sticking pins on your head, in case you get an accidental acupuncture? Opt for a fashion tape to secure the top of your hijab! This simple style requires you to only drape the ends of your shawl over each shoulder, and secure! If you want to make this completely pin-free, use a fashion tape in place of the pin. The fabric has to have a bit of weight for it to hold in place (in this case, the weight of the lace trimming helps). We also recommend getting a hijab with designs like this or a bejewelled one, to look more festive. This will take you five minutes tops, or if you’re an expert, one minute.
