Just two days after it opened last Friday, Jenny Bakery Singapore has run out of cookies.

The famous Hong Kong brand drew long queues for its signature butter cookies at its store at 01-2534, Block 422 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.

It is closed until tomorrow and will re-open on Thursday at 5pm.

A sign pasted at the shopfront says the next shipment will only be of the popular 4 Mix Butter Cookies, which is a combination of butter, coffee, shortbread and raisin oat cookies. It is priced at $25 for the small tin and $45 for the large.

Its Facebook page says that the cookies had sold out last Saturday at 6.45pm.

For its opening, Jenny Bakery Singapore’s managing director Lawrence Lim, 48, brought in two tonnes of cookies, which he estimated would be enough for up to 1,000 customers.

On Friday, customers could buy up to four tins of cookies. That became three tins a person on Saturday.

Mr Lim, who is overseas, says the Hong Kong factory will concentrate on producing the 4 Mix cookies for now. Stock for the other products will arrive on Nov 5.

He tells Life that “stock availability is a consistent problem”. He says that the cookies, though factory- made, are packed by hand and this causes a “bottle-neck” in the manufacturing system.

To minimise queuing, a booking system is expected to be implemented by the end of next month. In the long run, he plans to take corporate bulk orders as well.

Alternative options have sprung up for those who do not want to wait for Jenny Bakery’s new stocks to arrive.

Mr Rich Bakery (www.facebook.com/mrrichbakery), a cookie company also from Hong Kong, has started shipping its wares to Singapore.

Its box of 5 Mix cookies costs HK$126 (S$22.65), with an additional HK$100 shipping charge for purchases up to HK$500. The flavours are butter, matcha latte, choco-marshmallow, coffee almond and Mandheling coffee.
