You can’t exactly call brunch an institution in Singapore – the notion of having long leisurely brunches only really took off among the average Singaporean a few years ago, thanks to the proliferation of cafes and coffee culture. But the smorgasbord of options that are now readily available have made the brunch scene here ever-exciting.
Whether it’s an Argentinian rendition, indulgent champagne affairs that meander on late into the weekend afternoons, or even just good ol’ waffles and toast you’re looking for, chances are, there’s always a brunch offering to cater to your whims and fancies. Check out these brand new and revamped options on the scene.
Nobody embraces the indulgent, la dolce vita lifestyle quite like the Italians, and for just for one day on the 24th of July, you can emulate them at Fratelli Pizzeria, Resorts World Sentosa’s latest addition to their stable of celebrity chef restaurants, and helmed by Enrico and Roberto Cerea from the three-Michelin-starred Da Vittorio in Italy. Naturally, only top-notch quality stuff is to be expected: take your fill of items like foie gras, truffle-topped dishes, and the signature Pizza Baccala, topped with cured cod fish, mozzarella cheese and Ratte potato foam.
The Sunday Brunch at Fratelli Pizzeria, available only on 24th of July, is priced at $38 for RWS Invites members and $58 for public. Top up $50 for free-flow Prosecco, house wines and soft drinks.
Missed out on the one-day-only Italian brunch at Fratelli? Get your fix every Sunday at Aura’s new champagne brunch, which takes things, quite literally to the next level with a new hosting area at Aura’s Sky Lounge, and a jaw-dropping spread spanning seafood, Italian cured meats, cheese, desserts and more, totaling more than 40 different items.
Strategic eating-route planning to maximise intake is absolute necessary, but we recommend getting seconds of hot dishes like the trofie (twisted pasta) with truffle and mascarpone, black cod with pesto orotto (pearl barley risotto) and the seafood caciucco (fish stew) with octopus, cod, prawns, calamari and clams.
The Sunday Champagne brunch at Aura is available from noon to 230pm, priced at $98 for food only, and $148 for free-flow Perrier Jouet champagne.
We’re super chuffed that Bochinche has moved to a much more convenient (and conspicuous) location, which makes planning a date for its wildly popular weekend brunch menu all that much easier. The updated version is now centred around Bochinche’s custom-made wooden charcoal grill, which brings dishes like Argentinan prime cuts, a beef and bone marrow and burger and a selection of desserts treated on the grill to the fore. Regular brunch items, but given a distinctively South American touch, make an appearance too – think poached eggs on toast with braised ossobuco, and scrambled eggs with grilled chorizo, capers and burnt tomato salad.
Brunch at Bochinche is available every weekend from 11am to 330pm.
The hip Cantonese diner’s revamped weekend brunch menu now showcases even more decadence with luxurious items such as lobster, abalone and bamboo clam dishes, on top of the usual suspects of har gao, siew mai and custard buns. The signature barbecued pork, sweet, stick and oh-so-sumptuous, is a must-order, but remember to make room for new items like the intriguing escargot cheese puff, and crowd-pleaser Hokkaido milk cheese tart. It’s the place for both your traditional-minded folks and young ‘uns who want to Snapchat pretty pictures of food.
The Mizo weekend brunch is available at $68 per person. Top up $60 for free-flow artisanal cocktails, Veuve Clicquot champagne, wines and beers.
It’s hard to get excited about run-of-the-mill brunch mainstays like sandwiches and eggs Benedict, but we’ll make an exception for those who do it well. Having established itself as a go-to for great coffee, Oriole now dutifully serves up the accompanying brunch classics, but with a touch of elegance. Take your pick from new options like the Grilled Truffle Cheese Sandwich, Smoked Salmon Rosti or the Wild Berries Oatmeal with organic rolled oats, goji berries and brown sugar for something healthier.
Brunch at Oriole Coffee + Bar is available on weekends and public holidays from 10am to 2pm.
The Pelican’s newly launched brunch menu of classic brunch favourites that incorporate seafood is a natural extension of its usual repertoire – here, linguine is topped with trout roe, a crab omelette is served with lobster butter, and smoked haddock is the key ingredient in a polenta pancake with corn fritters.
Hearty seafood regulars like an oyster platter, seafood bouillabaise and The Pelican’s signature snapper pie, are available as well, of course. A big plus point: the CBD is pretty much deserted during the weekends, so you get to enjoy a leisurely meal in peace, plus the added bonus of having the stunning view of the Marina Bay waterfront.
Brunch at The Pelican is available every Saturday, 11am to 3pm.
