MOST SPACE- SAVING
VAPUR SHADES, $24.90 (500ML), FROM THE PLANET TRAVELLER
After you’ve finished your drink, roll the bottle up and squeeze it through the clip it comes with, to save space in your gym bag or picnic basket. To clean, just stick a brush into the pack.

MOST CAR-FRIENDLY
SNAPWARE ECO FLIP, $29.90 (500ML), FROM MAJOR DEPARTMENT STORES
This glass bottle doesn’t become hot to the touch as stainless steel bottles do when you leave it in a car parked in the open. This one comes with a grip-friendly silicone sleeve, and its flip top makes it a cinch to quench your thirst while waiting at traffic lights.

BEST FOR KIDS
THERMOS FOOGO VACUUM INSULATED STRAW BOTTLE, $49 (295ML), FROM MAJOR DEPARTMENT STORES
Is it madness to splurge almost $50 on a kid’s bottle? Not when it’s this easy-to-clean, user-friendly one (which has outlasted many of my children’s other bottles). The drinking straw, possibly the first thing that will turn grimy, is replaceable, so you don’t need to throw out the otherwise durable stainless steel container.

BEST FOR DAY TRIPS
KOR NAVA FILTERED WATER BOTTLE, $49.90 (650ML), FROM WORLD OF OUTDOORS
When you need lots of water to last through a day-long family outing, this hardy BPA-free bottle will come in useful – it has a coconut-husk filter that sifts out the impurities in tap water. With a sturdy handle, a convenient push-button cap, and a thick straw tip, it’s handy and provides satisfying sips.

MOST VERSATILE
KLEAN KANTEEN WIDE INSULATED BOTTLE, $53 (355ML), $56 (473ML), FROM THE PLANET TRAVELLER
The double-walled stainless steel bottle keeps drinks hot for up to six hours, or cold for 24 hours, and is close to perfect. You can even turn it into a coffee tumbler by switching its loop cap for a cafe cap (sold separately). It’s hardy too – I dropped it a few times, and save for some scratches, the bottle was hardly dented.

BEST FOR FLAVOURED DRINKS
MIGO GLASS WATER BOTTLE, $36.50 (500ML), FROM TANGS
This glass bottle is heat-resistant up to 400 deg C, although you’re unlikely to need a drink that hot. What’s really useful is its tea filter – it lets you steep tea leaves for a nice warm drink to go.
