Eye massager
Best Value
GERMAN POOL EYE MASSAGER ME11
$99, from www.honeybay.com
THE FIT A snug fit, but a gap between the gadget and my nose let light through.
THE MASSAGE There are three massage intensities – it was fairly comfortable at level one, but the pressure was stronger at the higher levels. The pressure was also more intense on my lower forehead, while my under-eye area felt under-worked. It’s the only one without a vibration mode, but has heat options (low and high).
THE CONTROLS With only power/heat and massage-intensity buttons, it is the simplest to operate. There are no timer options – you get a standard 15-minute massage on a default low-pressure and low-heat setting.
OTHER FEATURES The device can be folded in half, so it’s space-saving and travel-friendly.
VERDICT A basic, easy-to-use device that gives a moderately comfortable massage.

OSIM UGALAXY
$258, from Osim and www.osim.com
THE FIT Fitted snugly and kept light out.
THE MASSAGE There are two massage intensities – low and high. The massage was very comfortable on low, but the squeezing was intense on high. I liked how the pressure targeted my temples and the area around my eyes. I could also turn on a vibration mode, but the device kept slipping off my face because of it. Using the “light” setting, it felt like I was wearing goggles that changed colour – creative but unnecessary as I wanted to close my eyes during the massage. It is the only one that plays ambient music through speakers at the sides – very soothing although the massager emitted a loud buzz. Like the rest, it can warm your eyes as it massages.
THE CONTROLS The wired control runs only on batteries (unlike the others tested, which also work when plugged into a power socket), making it the heaviest in the line-up, as the batteries are stored in it. However, the buttons are easy to figure out.
OTHER FEATURES It’s foldable and comes with a sleek, semi-hard case. It also has a timer option for five-, 10- or 15-minute sessions.
VERDICT A sophisticated, albeit loud, device that gives a powerful, targeted massage.

EBENE BIO-RAY EYE THERAPY & CONTOUR LIFTING MASSAGER
$129, from BHG, John Little and OG
THE FIT The easiest to wear – I just strapped the elastic band with a Velcro strip around my head.
THE MASSAGE It gave the lightest massage but the strongest vibrations. There are five massage intensities, but the pressure was mild even at the highest level. If you like a more intense massage, add the vibrations, which come in 15 rhythms and are powerful enough to make your cheeks shake. The low- and high-heat options warmed the tops of my eyes comfortably.
THE CONTROLS It took me some time to figure out how to adjust the settings.
OTHER FEATURES It comes with a pack of disposable eye masks to drape over the eye pads – useful for keeping the device clean. A timer option lets you choose between 10-, 20- and 30-minute cycles.
VERDICT An easy-to-wear massager that gives a mild massage on a longer cycle.
