WHAT IT IS
A robotic vacuum cleaner. It lets you preset the start time so the machine can begin cleaning at night or when you are not at home. A full charge takes two hours, and lasts for two hours of cleaning. Included is a remote control that lets you direct it to specific areas and switch modes, as well as magnetic strips to cordon off spaces.

HOW WELL IT WORKED
Ease of use
Extremely easy, it was ready to operate right out of the box. I just had to plug in the base station to a power point, and attach the machine to charge it before use. Only when it ran into trouble, like being stuck at chair legs, did I need to check the manual to see what the error code (that popped up on the machine’s screen) meant.

Cleanliness
On Auto mode, it covered most areas in my rooms, effortlessly picking up most of the flour and cornflakes I’d sprinkled around to test it. The two feeler-like brushes swept most of the crumbs into its path to be vacuumed up. Most of the bits that were flung away were picked up when it repeated its route. For remaining remnants, I used the remote control to direct it to clean them up. It was more thorough with cleaning corners when set on Corner mode.

Sensitivity to obstacles
It was an angel around low furniture – it hardly bumped into sofas and table legs. I’m impressed at how it went over thick rugs easily, without getting stuck to them. However, it was less adept when it came to steps – it went down a 3cm-high ledge to get to the kitchen but got stuck while trying to mount it.

Noise
No complaints here – it won’t wake anyone up at night. It roamed with a sedated whirr.

VERDICT
A wonderful machine that cleans well and is kind to furniture – even though it needed occasional help to get back on track. – Tsiao Hui
