Like any styling product, dry shampoo only takes care of what our hair looks like on the outside, absorbing any oil from our scalp. But too much of a “good” thing can always be a bad thing. Here’s why:

1. It does not clean your hair like a normal shampoo.

Dry shampoos weren’t ever designed to substitue or replace real shampoos, Wet shampoos do a good job of removing dirt and debris, skin particles, oil and environmental pollutants while dry shampoos can only act as a temporal solution to absorb oil from your scalp and give your hair more volume. Similarly, powdering our face does not mean it removes any dirt and oil, but simply making it look good only on the outside.

2. It can lead to potential hair loss with frequent use.

As much as we can’t stand having oily hair, especially during a long day and are often tempted to resolve the problem with a miracle styling product such as dry shampoo.

The product that absorbs it, in fact still stays put and leaves a combination of the dry shampoo as well as the oil to remain on your follicles, and over time, sinking in. This can lead to clogging and possible hair loss.

3. It can diminish the shine on your hair.

Usually dry shampoos’ formulas are made with corn starch or aluminium starch, that come on with a matte finish. This can essentially make the colour in your hair look less shiny and healthy.

4. It interferes with your hair’s natural shedding process.

The natural shedding process happens when hair that has reached the end of its growing cycle falls from your scalp.

However with dry shampoo, healthy hair often gets clumped or tangled in, resulting in an abundance of hair falling out when you shower or when you brush your hair.
