GET A BETTER VIEW.

Maggie Ford Danielson, global beauty authority for Benefit Cosmetics, shares this tip: Prop your face upwards such that you are looking downwards into the mirror. This way, you get a better view of your lashes when you are coating them with mascara. Place the wand under your upper lashes as closely to the roots as possible, and wiggle before pulling it outwards towards the ends. Make sure to do this for the entire length of each eyelash.

BUILD YOUR COVERAGE.

Just like layering foundation, you can create more dramatic lashes by layering mascara. Apply a volumising formula to build fuller lashes, then top with a lengthening one for better definition. Some women even add a final coat of waterproof mascara for longer-lasting results. When layering, don’t wait for mascara to dry as it can result in clumps.

COAT BOTH SIDES.

Apply mascara under and on top of lashes. This helps to build more volume.

BUILD AN ARSENAL OF TOOLS.

A business card held behind lashes and against eyelids can help you build colour without leaving smudges on the eyelids. You can also use the rounded face of a spoon.

REVIVE OLD MASCARA.

Mascara typically expires after six months, but if yours starts drying out sooner than that, add several drops of saline solution into the bottle and gently swirl the wand to mix.
