Rum & Raisin, from The Milky Way EDITOR’S RAVE
#01-333, 48 Tanglin Halt Road.
From $5.80 a scoop
The rum flavour was intense and refreshing all at once. This scored points for its plump, rum-soaked raisins that offered a boozy kick with a shot of sweetness.

Pistachio, from The Milky Way
#01-333, 48 Tanglin Halt Road.
From $5.80 a scoop
The distinctly fresh and toasty flavour of the roasted Sicilian pistachios paired perfectly with the creamy vanilla ice cream.

Elvis, from Holy Cow Creamery
#01-291, 292 Yishun Street 22,
tel: 6635-3463.
From $3.90 a scoop
Tastes like a homemade peanut butter and banana sandwich – in a good way! And we liked that it wasn’t too heavy.

Lychee Rose, from Seriously Ice Cream
#01-44, 4 Everton Park,
tel: 9621-6889.
From $4.30 a scoop
The ice cream here was not the smoothest and had an icy consistency, but this was one of the most interesting flavours. Made with fresh lychees, rose water and crushed rose petals, this is perfect for a hot day. It’s like a cool bandung drink with frozen lychee bits thrown in.

Miso Gula Melaka, from Seriously Ice Cream GREAT FIND
#01-44, 4 Everton Park,
tel: 9621-6889.
From $4.30 a scoop
Who would’ve thought miso would work so well in ice cream? Its best-selling flavour, the white miso complemented the gula melaka brilliantly, giving a good balance of sweet and savoury. The gula melaka flavour wasn’t overpowering either.

Mr Potato Head, from Holy Cow Creamery
#01-291, 292 Yishun Street 22,
tel: 6635-3463.
From $3.90 a scoop
One of the funkiest combinations around, this is worth every sinful mouthful. With chocolate-covered potato chips steeped in salted caramel ice cream – expect nothing less than an explosion of flavours, and a nice crunch.

Butter Beer, from Fat Cat Ice Cream Bar
#01-25, 416 Bedok North
Avenue 2, tel: 6241-0830.
From $4.50 a scoop
Super creamy but light, we would like to imagine this is how Harry Potter’s Butter Beer tastes like in ice cream form. There’s no lingering bitterness from the beer and this left us wanting more.

Thai Milk Tea, from Ice Queen
#01-02, 217 East Coast Road,
tel: 6440-8098.
From $4.90 a scoop
Made with liquid nitrogen for an extra-smooth texture, this was refreshing and fragrant, thanks to the use of Thai tea leaves. A satisfying icy treat for teh lovers.

Sea Salt Caramel, from Ice Queen
#01-02, 217 East Coast Road,
tel: 6440-8098.
From $4.90 a scoop
Unlike other sea salt caramel ice cream, the distinct burnt caramel taste of this flavour, which reminded us of butterscotch candies, added a punch without being cloying. We also liked the subtle saltiness.

Black Sesame, from Regroup X Scoop Therapy
12 Kim Keat Road,
tel: 6258-3688.
From $4 a scoop
Made with black sesame paste, this boasts a rich and nutty flavour that grows on you.

Salted Egg Yolk, from Regroup X Scoop Therapy GREAT FIND
12 Kim Keat Road,
tel: 6258-3688.
From $4 a scoop
Savoury flavours are all the rage, and this shop ditches the sea salt and miso for salted egg yolk. The result: a sweet and salty concoction with bits of grainy egg yolk.

Earl Grey Lavender, from Fat Cat Ice Cream Bar
#01-25, 416 Bedok North
Avenue 2, tel: 6241-0830.
From $4.50 a scoop
Easily our favourite at this ice cream bar, this was subtly sweet and floral, but packed an intense and satisfying Earl Grey fragrance.

GREAT WAFFLES FOUND!
Fat Cat Ice Cream Bar’s Gourmet Waffle ($6, without ice cream) is everything you’d want in a waffle. Fluff y, light and crispy, the buttermilk-flavoured charcoal waffle comes with salted egg sauce, salted caramel and lavender petals. If you’d like it with ice cream, we suggest the Earl Grey Lavender – its light floral flavour pairs well with the waffle.
