We will admit this: Like almost every one, we are attached to our Converse All Stars and Adidas Stan Smiths for every day. But when Cole Haan, the Chicago brand that has been going through some renaissance with cooler takes on classics, dropped its 2.Zerogrand Stitchlites, we paused…and we thought…these are contenders.

Slightly lighter than Converse All Stars (which clocks in at 227g) and just half the weight of Adidas Stan Smiths (327g), they aren’t just lightweight. With their knit-like upper, they look like designer kicks that bred with your favourite socks – yet didn’t turn on socklet-like.

But Cole Haan being Cole Haan, doesn’t do just the aesthetically-pleasing or cultish. Like all its shoes, the 2.Zerogrand Stitchlite has tech: foot bed cushion to distribute the weight of the body evenly while wicking away moisture; outsole to provide shock absorption to the sole of your feet; responsive cushioning for insoles that rebound with each step and doesn’t wear out even if you wear the sneakers 24/7; and 1mm “holes” around the toe box and upper to optimise airflow to prevent toe jam – even if you're sock-less. Except for the gym and sports, they are good for everything else. $235 a pair.
