When you’re local footwear giant Design & Comfort, you don’t need people crooning over how “cool looking” your shoes are and neither do you need social media clout because that’s not guaranteed to ring the cash register. What you definitely need though? 29 years of history as the go-to brand for comfortable shoes that’s loved by office ladies and aunties (seriously, it’s like they’re already broken in when you purchase them) and 19 outlets for convenience in purchase.
The classic brown tote ($55.90) gets trend-ified with metal rivets and a pair of heeled flats are as comfortable as socks (after all, the upper is a sock like material).
But to Nicholas Chan (son of D&C’s founder), the 29 year old brand had to age backwards to attract a new generation of trend-hungry audiences aka young Asians. The first thing he added: an online site that ships worldwide and secondly: a 360 degrees image overhaul. No longer considered the shoes you swap your heels out for in the office, D&C wants to be the go-to label for stylish shoes that don’t break your ankles or the bank: momsy looking sandals are replaced by chic cross-strapped mules, the streetstyle-star and influencer favourite furry shoes are aplently, and you’d definitely be happy to know that the most expensive thing you can buy is a bag that rings in at $59.90. Now that's a brand refresh we can get behind.
The D&C take on the furry loafer ($38.90) has the right fur to shoe proportion: just enough to keep it interesting. Spot the envelope clutch ($48.90) too: gold hardware keeps it more chic than corporate.
