By now, you might have already watched Netflix’s The Gray Man. After all, the US$200 million dollar production was ranked number one on Netflix’s most-watched list for eight days, and it has since been announced that a sequel and a spin-off, starring Ryan Gosling once again, will be in the works.
Directed by the Russo brothers (of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame), the film tracks the footsteps of mysterious CIA undercover agent Court Gentry (code name: Sierra Six) played by Gosling, as he finds himself with a huge target on his back after accidentally unearthing some deadly secrets.
As he traipses all over the world from Bangkok to Prague, you’ll notice that Six, despite the many disguises he takes on, is spotted wearing the TAG Heuer Carrera Three Hands.
Interestingly, Gosling was initially slated to don another watch, but he decided against the first model as he felt it had too many bells and whistles.
“Six is an agent whose life is on the line, every second of the day, and he needs a watch that’s got him covered. It takes precision and dedication for him to survive, and so it seemed like the perfect fit for him to wear the TAG Heuer Carrera,” says the 41-year-old.
With its clean lines and elegant baton indices, the Carrera is one of the Swiss watchmaker’s most simple and purest models. First created 60 years ago, it was designed for high-speed drivers who needed to tell time under pressure. The story of how Jack Heuer, the great-grandson of founder Edouard Heuer, went from first to third place in a Swiss race he was competing in because he could not read the dashboard timer correctly, was the impetus for creating this pared-back design.
Today, the TAG Heuer Carrera Three Hands remains a true classic that’s sporty and easy to wear. If it’s good enough for a secret agent on the run, it’s good enough for us.
