Shining brighter than a diamond

We all associate sequins with the festive season, given their sparkly nature that lends itself so well to party dressing. But, what happens when it’s over? So very often, we invest lots of money into our party looks only to stash them away to collect dust until the next Christmas or New Year comes along.

This 2019, however, has been somewhat different when it comes to sequins. Rather than remaining a trend that is forgotten come start of the year, they’re as prevalent as ever. Featured on designer runways across all fashion capitals back in September 2018, the likes of Alexander Wang, Alexander McQueen and Saint Laurent all showed us that spring deserves an extra touch of sparkle this 2019.

We all know how to rock sequins when it comes to heading out, but can you wear sequins during the day? According to the fashion powerhouses, you absolutely can. The key things to note are the colours and style of the item that you have chosen when you want to embrace sequins during the daytime. What that means is — avoid anything too loud or over-the-top.

The easiest way to ensure you hit the mark is introduce sequins for just one item — albeit a skirt, crop top, handbag or your shoes. Then keep the rest pared down and casual to balance this sparkly piece out. Alternatively, opt for sequins in a muted colour palette and pair with similar tones in different fabrics.

Venture below to check out our recommended pieces for updating your working wardrobe with a little touch of shimmer.

4. Petite silver sequin top, S$89.90 from Wallis at Zalora.

5/13

Rather than full sequins covering your entire garment, keep it casual by having just a touch of sparkle, like this asymmetrical sequin hem floaty top. We love this piece because it can easily transition from day to night, depending on what else you team it with. Go with simple white denim shorts for the day and a black leather skirt for the clubs.
