2023 has been a year full of tech discoveries. From mirrorless cameras that take ultra-sharp photos, 4K videos and are compact and lightweight enough for travel; to smartwatches that help you achieve your health and fitness goals, never has technology played such a significant role in our everyday lives. Even beauty companies were releasing electronic devices, the kind your facial therapist would use, to help consumers achieve their skin goals at home.
In true Singaporean fashion (read: kaypoh), we reached out to Singaporean content creators to find out what their favourite tech discoveries are.
“I have a history of overlooking my mental and physical limits, which causes me to experience burnout. With my Garmin Instinct Crossover watch, I find it easier to avoid situations like this as it provides daily health reports. I mostly keep track of my Heart Rate Variability (HRV), Sleep Score and Body Battery. Not every watch comes with these functions. Body Battery and HRV measurements are a big deal to me because they allow me to keep track of my physical capacity, and my threshold for stress. Having actual numbers at my fingertips helps me understand my mind and body better and ensure I get adequate rest which then enables me to give my best to all of my projects.”
“I wanted to pick up reading as a hobby this year as I really enjoy learning new things and widening my perspective. This led to me discovering the Kobo Clara HD, which has become an everyday essential. As an actor and content creator who’s juggling scriptwork and shoots, accessibility is paramount. And this e-book offers me a wide variety of reading materials at my fingertips. Unlike a smartphone or tablet, the Clara HD doesn’t tire my eyes out due to the lack of blue light and glare. Its weeks-long battery life also makes it a no-brainer for my dynamic lifestyle.”
“The TikTok-viral Canon G7 X Mark II camera definitely lives up to its hype. This compact camera is always in my purse — I take it on vacation, to dinner with friends and everything in between. I took it on my recent trip to Abu Dhabi and it cemented my already-raving review of the camera. It’s incredibly handy and takes amazing photos.”
“The Fuji X100V has easily become my go-to camera for both personal and professional endeavours. As a commercial film director, I find it to be an absolute powerhouse with all its film simulations and compact body. I’m able to capture amazing colours all in camera. From location recce photos to editorial images and street photography to nights out as well as vacations, it follows me everywhere. It’s totally transcended a small personal camera stereotype, and is slowly becoming an everyday essential.”
“I have quite the collection of beauty devices but I’m still always excited by the latest launches. Over Christmas, I gave my new Est.Lab VItaLift A+ SmartSculpt Buddy a try and my facial muscles felt like they just went to the gym—they were sore and tired after. That said, the results were instant. My skin looked lifted and tighter. You can also use it everywhere on your body to tone and strengthen the muscles, which is achieved through the combination of Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) and Sonic Vibration Therapy (SVT).
The device offers six levels of EMS and SVT each, and is programmed with three different modes for various needs: Face & body sculpting, deep facial workout to boost metabolism, and promote blood circulation and lymphatic drainage.
Having tried a diverse array of beauty devices, I must say I’m very impressed by the immediate results of the VitaLift A+ SmartSculpt Buddy. So if you’re heading out for another festive dinner or party and are still bloated from the night before, give this a 10-minute go on your face and you’ll be lifted in no time.”
“This SD Card reader has made transferring photos from my digital camera to my iPhone so much easier. I no longer have to download them through my computer or fumble trying to transfer them through WiFi or Bluetooth. I can transfer all of my photos from the camera directly to my iPhone while on the go. My friends love it too because I’m able to share the pictures we took with them so quickly.”
