Long gone are the days where ‘fishnet’ is only associated with diamond-shaped hosiery. Fishnets are having a huge moment, and they can now be seen not just in stockings but in other styles of clothing as well, appearing in new and unexpected ways. It’s important to note the fishnet of 2019 is a larger version of the standard small fishnet — it’s more netting, if you will.
Just look at designers such as Ports 1961, JW Anderson and Richard Malone, who took netting to another level in their S/S’19 runway shows. Their ensembles are quirky, stylish and fun, with a haute bohemian air.
Below are some of our favourite fishnet pieces to hit the trend right. From macrame details to unique fabrics, deliver your spring netting look with this perfect accent to your #OOTD.

This beige skirt emulates the ‘wiggle’ skirt silhouette — a figure hugging skirt that cinches in at the knees. This particular one has a mesh overlay and fringe hem, delivering a cooler and more casual vibe to the traditional wiggle skirt. Wear with a solid coloured crop top for a sassy vibe.

Not to be worn solo, this beige tulle top will look great over a bikini, crop top or pretty bralette (for the braver souls). The mesh, unlike the other pickings, has been embroidered with white beads and sequins, offering the netting a delicate touch. Cut for a loose fit, it’s an easy coverall for lazy days.

Sure, it’s not quite suitable for Monday morning at the office — but who wants to live their life constricted to what is office appropriate? This bold, bright and slightly bizarre dress by Calvin Klein, made from a cotton and wool mix, was inspired by the stark contrast of American Horror Story with the American dream. Genius.

Available in four unique colours, this bag hits two trends in one go — the (still ongoing) bucket bag trend and the netting one too. We love that the handle and inner rim is made of a gorgeous cow leather, which ups its elegance, whilst the exterior is a tactile macrame. For work-to-play, the black option is also really attractive.
