Phoebe Philo's never been one to do things like everyone else.

When she took over the reins at Celine in 2008, she bucked the trend of loud, OTT design for a pared-down look that focused on building a wardrobe of timeless, chic and feminine pieces. Needless to say, it was a hit then, and even if you were to scroll back on her archive, you'd find that so many of her designs feel as timeless and current as they did over a decade ago.

Even in choosing to launch her brand, she bucked the entire fashion calendar and chose to only pull back the curtains a whole month later towards the tail end of October.

But much like many great designers, her mark has been indelibly left on the fashion industry as a whole. We refer to pieces as "old Celine", and the remark "it's giving Phoebe Philo" would be high praise for anyone's outfit. Certainly, if Phoebe Philo had a core dedicated to her, then these 10 finds would fit into that moodboard.

If you followed her pre-Celine work at Chloe, you'd know that one of the hallmarks on which she zoned in on was the exaggerated feminine details. Ruffles, frills, pearls, they all came to the surface. Even at Celine, she'd include a hyper-feminine piece – a pussybow blouse or a swishy skirt – here and there.

Flounced lace dress, $89.95, H&M

Similarly, this dress takes on Phoebe Philo's penchant for feminine lines. It's a little bit reminiscent of Philo's Spring/Summer 2016 collection, where black lace peeked out of sober tailored jackets – a style cue you can easily create with this dress.

Pleated wide-leg utility trousers, US$135 (S$189), COS

At her first runway show during the Spring/Summer 2010 season, she opened with a series of structured utilitarian pieces – one of which was a pair of utility trousers with a crisp white shirt. Mimic that by zipping this over a fitted white shirt.

Catalina tube top, US$88 (S$120), The Frankie Shop

One of the things Philo is best known for is the way she's able to cut fabric and turn it into tailoring marvels. This tube top – with its pleated front and clean lines – feels like a Philo throwback.

While Philo never invented the concept of statement jewellery, she certainly knew her way around it. Remember those sculptural pieces from her art-inspired Spring/Summer 2014 collection, or her love for mismatched earrings? This pearl-strung beaded choker could easily pass off for a Philo design.

Oversized curved collar tassel edge coat in cobalt blue, $269.99, Annorlunda at ASOS

At her Spring/Summer 2017 show, she showed a dress with a recreation of Yves Klein's cobalt blue paintings – which now draws a hefty pricetag on most resale sites due to its significance and recognisability in her body of work. This coat nods to that gorgeously rich blue colour used.

Yasmin fabric mules, $69.90, Pedro

Elevated skate shoes, elevated Birkenstocks, elevated clogs...Philo had the midas touch when it came to taking the most mundane fashion items and turning them into lustworthy, must-have pieces.

Ninon drawstring crossbody bag, $286, A.P.C. at Farfetch

There was a time when the Celine Trio bag – a crossbody design with a minimalist logo placed in the front, and three slim compartments – was every insider's must-have. While that style has been discontinued, this A.P.C. crossbody feels a little similar in the discreet branding and its laidback appeal.

Linen blend jumpsuit, $89.90, Zara

It wasn't just crisp white shirts that Philo had that magic hand with. She could take crisp white anythings – skirts, pants, shirtdresses, you name it – and turn them into versatile, architecturally-cut marvels. A jumpsuit with clean lines like could easily pass off as a Philo piece.

Lastly, when in doubt, grab your biggest, darkest sunglasses and throw it on with a black fitted jumper à la Joan Didion in a Celine ad.
