The New Minimalist Wedding Dress

1/12

Thanks to royal brides like Meghan Duchess of Sussex and Princess Eugenie, and the recently wed Fala Chen, there's been a resurgence of the pared-back wedding dress. And yet, it is not minimalist as we know it (think contemporary edgy styles) but a return to classic elegance (we're seeing a revival of duchesse satin dresses!).

The new minimalist evokes romance and a sense of timelessness, without excessive frills - it's a dress that transcends the test of time. Here are 12 wedding dress ideas from celebrities and designer collections to get you inspired.

Meghan Markle

2/12

It's probably safe to say the minimalist trend was sparked last year when Meghan Markle wed Prince Harry to become the Duchess of Sussex in not one but two pared-back gowns - a classic boat-neck style by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy (See also: Meghan Markle has revealed a secret to her wedding dress!), and a contemporary halter by Stella McCartney for her evening reception.

Fala Chen

We have two words to describe actress Fala Chen's wedding day look: Utterly graceful.

The actress opted for this flowing long-sleeved gown when she wed her French beau of three years, Emmanuel Straschnov, earlier this May. A classic bun and simple earrings completed her gorgeous bridal ensemble.

Princess Eugenie

4/12

Princess Eugenie was the epitome of elegance in a custom A-line designed by Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos of British based label Peter Pilotto when she wed Jack Brooksbank in October 2018

The clean-cut silhouette, created by Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos of British based label Peter Pilotto, bore subtle motifs that are meaningful to Princess Eugenie - Thistle for Scotland, The Shamrock for Ireland, The York Rose for England and The Ivy representing the couple's home. It also had folded neckline and a low back specially created to show her scar, from a surgery at age 12 to correct scoliosis - something she has been helping to raise awareness of over the years.
