Kate Spade goes print crazy for Spring

Trust Kate Spade, the Queen of all things pretty and insanely adorable, to come up with a new collection that ups the ante on charming prints.

Kate Spade’s latest collection draws inspiration from the late Australian artist best known for her wallpaper prints, Florence Broadhurst, and translates them into cheerful, wearable fashion items.

From black-and-white Japanese floral prints to old school geometric prints to statement stripes in every shade of the rainbow, the collection is replete with the Florence Broadhurst spirit.

According to Deborah Lloyd, Kate Spade’s Creative Director, the collection is meant to reflect her sense of style.

“[She was a] peacock and a chameleon – standing out while blending in,” she said, referencing the use of shades like sky blue and lawn green alongside bold bursts of coral and fuchsia.

Tongue-in-cheek statements like “Eat Cake for Breakfast” and “Skirt the Rules” are also seen emblazoned across canvas two-toned bags, t-shirts and jewellery, adding a touch of sass to the collection. As always, whimisical bags abound, such as as wicker basket bags in all matter of sizes and a purse covered entirely in artificial grass.

Undoubtedly, the stars of the Florence Broadhurst-inspired collection are the monochromatic travel cases with her signature Japanese floral print that hark back to the swinging ‘60s. Ranging from boxy train cases for all your cosmetics to double-strapped luggage, there are enough pieces for fans of this print to overload on.
