The opening of the newest shopping centre in Jurong East was scheduled for June 11, 2013 but both retailers and shoppers were stunned when the developer of the mall made a last minute announcement that the opening day would be delayed.

The 241-store mall did not open as scheduled on Tuesday because not every unit had been issued the required fire permit. A Temporary Fire Permit is needed by both the mall itself and its individual units to begin operations.

For shoppers who have been waiting in anticipation to visit the new mall, tomorrow’s opening must come as good news. Many have been looking forward to the opening as this will be the first time big-name retailers like Victoria’s Secrets and Books Kinokuniya enter a suburban mall.

Exciting new stores in Jem include a huge three-storey H&M, a 32,000 square foot Marks & Spencer’s duplex, and a Crocs store that will stock the latest comfortable footwear from the American brand.

The new Jem mall is at 50 Jurong Gateway Road. For more information about Jem, go to http://www.jem.sg; you can also follow the mall on Facebook at www.facebook.com/JemSingapore.
