Cartier has brought back the iconic Must de Cartier bag
Inspired by the masculine wardrobe, Cartier’s timeless accessories are made for the modern woman – and literally must-haves

Back in the ’70s, then president of Cartier Robert Hocq wanted to create a line of products that one simply must have. He coined the phrase “Les Must de Cartier”, and The Must de Cartier bag made its debut in 1973. It quickly became a cult favourite by the ’80s. This was the bag that established the rich shade of burgundy as Cartier’s signature colour, which remains part of the brand’s DNA till today.
The 2020 edition of the Must de Cartier collection has been refreshed with a relaxed urban style and elements of androgynous chic, while retaining a touch of nostalgia: The bags have a secret pocket containing a mirror engraved with “Cartier, Paris, London and New York”, paying tribute to the three cities the French maison has historically been found in.
The minimalist collection consists of three styles: the Game bag (from $1,570) and hobo bag (from $1,700) in three sizes, as well as a tote ($2,660). All feature the iconic tone-on- tone XXL size saddle stitched logo. On the adjustable shoulder straps, there’s an elegant ardillon buckle featuring a stylised C, which is identical to that seen on Cartier’s watch straps.
Complete the look by pairing these lightweight bags with Must de Cartier small leather goods: a mini wallet, an international wallet with flap, a zipped multi-card holder, and a simple card holder.
