Korean fashion label Headline Seoul has only been around for a couple of years but it’s already made a place for itself among the plethora of high street brands that litter Singapore’s shopping malls.

Its distinctly Korean vibe and the fact that all the pieces are designed and made in the land of K-Pop, K-Beauty, K-Drama and the juggernaut that is K-Style, has meant that Headline Seoul already has a mass of hardcore fans. Now the brand has come up with something that’s even more impressive … a “designer” version of its smart-casual, office-appropriate creations named HLS DSGN (basically that’s Headline Seoul Design).

The inaugural Autumn Holiday collections for this premium line is apparently inspired more by the Korean runway rather than just the streetwear and features higher quality fabrics; the design inspiration came from New York-born artist Sophia Collier who is known for her sculptural reliefs of water surfaces. “One day I was walking across a bridge and thought I wish I could just reach down into the water and pick up a piece of that shining surface and keep it forever,” says Collier about the source of her inspiration.

For the HLS DSGN team this concept translated into “a lyrical colour palette, swirls and whorls, dreamy waterworld-inspired shapes, wave-like swishes and silhouettes in dreamscape blue” … which means loose shapes, lots of blue, metallic fabrics and knits – the bronze is particularly pretty ‒ and soft, feminine, easy-to-wear pieces.

There’s a strong nod to the current sports-luxe craze that’s on all the runways and in all the shop windows, reinforced in this case by a collaboration with Nike which sees HLS DSGN getting hold of and exclusive colourway for its popular women’s sneakers.

Prices for the HLS DSGN Autumn Holiday collection range from $109-$289 which is amazingly affordable considering the quality of the fabrics and finishes; these pieces are really, very well made and the fabric looks as good as that of any luxury brand.

HLS DSGN x CURATED

HLS DSGN autumn holiday 2014 collection JEWELLERY

Curated is basically the ready-to-wear line of top Thai designer Ek Throngpraset who is best know for his unique jewellery pieces that regularly sell out on sites like Net-A-Porter. Especially for HLS DSGN the designer has exclusively created three necklaces priced from $89-$139 (like a 100th of the price of a mainline Ek Throngpraset piece of jewellery!) and made of EVA foam. This stuff is amazing – it looks totally solid and heavy but is as light as air. These pieces have been named after the founder of Headline Seoul, Ms Ann Kositchotitana’s daughters (she’s a personal friend of Throngpraset) – Natalie, Kandice and Sofie. How cute is that?
