Alia Bastamam

The Malaysian designer of her own eponymous label, Alia Bastamam, started out as a bespoke and bridal designer before venturing into designing ready to wear clothing. Her first every Fall/Winter’17 collection is the best of both worlds with pieces like a masculine bomber jacket paired with a feminine ruched skirt; it’s not unexpected but it’s hard to find any other combination that works that great.

LIE

When your father has been hailed as the Korean equivalent of Alexander McQueen, you know you have big shoes to fill. Chung Lee (the son of Lie Sang Bong)’s collection is a lot less dramatic than his father’s but a lot more wearable. His dresses and bottoms actually have pockets and belt loops but he doesn’t scrimp on the luxury that great clothes should give you – the pieces also come in velvet and suede in jewelled tone colours.

Luveg

The classic black bag is on the top of every woman’s needs – it has to be light, versatile and most importantly, able to fit everything you need. Korean designer Ji Yu of Luveg understands this but she wants to elevate the next one you own. With a background in designing luxury car interiors, her bags are designed to resemble one – glossy leather mimics luxury car seats and tone on tone hardware reflects an automobile’s car parts.

Sean & Sheila

Within two years of graduating from fashion school, local designers Sean & Sheila have scooped up multiple awards and it’s hard to imagine why not with their ability to take everyday items and give it a twist. This season, it’s all about the men’s military jacket – to the other sex, its utilitarian but to Sean & Sheila, there’s oriental embroidery that’s on trend, asymmetrical folds to give the garment a sculptural shape and it also comes in a water-resistant nylon. It’s the best of both sexes in a protective outerwear.

Soe Jakarta

Indonesian designer Monique Soeriaatmadja’s started Soe Jakarta with a problem in mind – she loves to shop but she wasn’t able to find the perfect fabric that was ethically made. Fast forward a few years later and Soe Jakarta was born from the hands of Indonesian textile artisans. The second best part about buying something from Soe Jakarta? It layers well with everything you already own. The dress picture? Slip a turtleneck under for an evening look or wear it by itself.

Soulpot Studio

Designer Sujiin Kim isn’t inspired by things like nature, art or what everybody is currently wearing. Instead, she looks to the struggles she has faced in her five-year tenure as a designer – quiet dignity, mutual respect and the pioneer spirit. Abstract ideas aside, her Fall/Winter’17 collection is for the woman who doesn’t want to look like anyone else – hard and soft fabrics are used for an interesting take on texture and you could say it’s even a little bit avant-garde. Not for the faint hearted.

Tibaeg Collection

In contrast to Soulpot Studio, Eun Ae of Tibaeg’s Fall/Winter’17 collection looks to a girl living in a house in a wintry forest (now try saying that three times quickly). With her signature digital prints (she has done everything from the tropics to the mountains), this time in wintry accents and on loose and soft silhouettes (think luxe and cozy), her collection is for those who want to bundle up sans the usual dark colours associated with the season.
