Twelve Apostles, Great Ocean Road, Victoria

3/10

Originally known as the Sow and Piglets, these iconic limestone formations were renamed The Twelve Apostles as part of a 1920s tourism campaign, despite the fact that there were only nine pinnacles. Now there are eight. With the rapid rate of erosion caused by the wind and sea, soon there will likely be even fewer. See them while you can by travelling the Great Ocean Road, a spectacular driving route along Victoria’s rugged coastline. The dramatic cliffs make for glorious wedding shots too.

Getting there: Allow at least six hours for the return trip from Melbourne or stay at one of the many accommodation options along the way.

Located on the south coast of Western Australia, in the Cape Le Grand National Park, Lucky Bay is surrounded by pure white beaches and turquoise blue ocean. Pitch a tent and relax by the bay as kangaroos hop past your feet.

Stretching over 2,000km and visible from space, this natural wonder is accessible up and down the Queensland coast, from Bundaberg to the tip of Cape York. While people from around the world flock to the Great Barrier Reef to go diving and snorkelling (think underwater wedding portraits!), you don’t have to be a scuba diver or even a swimmer to get up close to this living marvel. Simply jump in a glass-bottom boat and go on an aquatic adventure without getting wet.
