Summer chic

1/10

You might have already graduated from school a while back but in Singapore, there’s this unspoken rule that the June holidays is our equivalent of the Summer holidays. This also means that you’re going to want to wear a lot of summery pieces, such as sun dresses, coloured bags and sandals that show off your tropical-themed pedicures.

But in our country where the bedrock of summer dressing is shorts and slippers, you’re going to want something with a little more grace and a little less slovenly. Who better to look at than some of the most stylish Asian celebrities around? Here are some of our favourites.

1. Carrie Wong: A lightweight blouse

2/10

It’s easy to toss on a t-shirt and call it a day, but a lightweight blouse (and preferably one in a light shade) provides the same comfort of a tee but gives it a dressier vibe. It’s peppy, but not sloppy.

Swap the pants with any bottoms such as denim shorts, pencil skirts, jeans, etc (ok you get the picture) and you’re good to go.

2. Jesseca Liu: A dad-cap

3/10

No longer known as “that cap your dad wears to BBQs or the golf course”, the dad cap is more than just a hat you wear to conceal bad hair days. It’s the perfect throwback to the ‘90s that doesn’t look dated, and is a great way to jazz up a simple t-shirt and jeans combo.

3. Jeanette Aw: The perfect summer jacket

4/10

It’s got to be lightweight enough that you can still wear it out and in a colour that already pairs well with everything and anything you already own.

Answer? Jeanette Aw’s denim version. It is the perfect one to take to the streets and the office. Wear it with anything from a linen maxi to a blouse and jeans.

4. Oon Shu An: The baggy trousers

5/10

When the temperature rises, you’re going to want to relax in terms of your makeup (but not forgetting the SPF), your mood and especially your clothing. Shu An’s pair of khaki pants are perfect for the latter because it’s one part heat-wicking and the other, stylish.

5. Jessica Jung: A happy graphic tee

6/10

Summertime means you’re going to want to be lightening up the colours of your wardrobe and your makeup, on top of keeping your mood sunny and unconcerned. Jessica Jung aces the former with a happy graphic tee (it does after all have a cartoon smiley).

Its fun, breezy and easygoing vibes means it can go well with denim shorts and sneakers. But feel free to wear a tee that sports whatever makes you happy, anyways.

6. Dee Hsu: The cutie pie crossbody bag

7/10

Dee Hsu is already in the best of summer staples — A loose jumpsuit, glowy makeup and statement earrings.

Still, your eyes will probably zone in to her rainbow bag: It’s “summery” without looking too blatant and its cross body shape allows you to go hands free for all the pictures you’ll be taking. A must-have accessory that’s fuss-free too.

8/10

It’s easy to get carried away when it comes to buying a printed summer dress (Lemons! Watermelons! Avocados!) but Constance Lau’s donning the perfect one: Sleeveless for humid nights, an it-works-for-summer-and-fall print, and the perfect length that you can get away with for workdays and the weekend.

9/10

The scarf you should be wearing this summer should preferably with brightly coloured, printed and large enough for you to wear it around your neck, as a belt or tied up nonchalantly on your bag strap. Joanne Peh’s version should be the barometer for the one you’re purchasing.
